I sent off the paperwork to get the masses of new benefits for this fantastic new card and service and someone I work with said that you don't actually get the Virgin Gold until you actually book your next upper class flight.
I don't actually have the paperwork any more to re-read, but is this true?

No, you are automatically sent the Gold pack, but don't be surprised if Amex misplaces your paperwork

I guess I have to actually pay the new fee to expect better service then ;)

Bizzarely, I told Amex not to upgrade my account, but nonethless I still sent off the Virgin form and the Gold card arrived today! Methinks they have completely lost the plot.
