The story-

I am flying FL BWI-DAY-BWI on 1 July for a job interview in Dayton. The company I am meeting with bought the ticket through the travel agent that they use. Because the company owner was doing this on his cell phone the ticket was issued with my last name incorrect; it has an S at the end of it. When the owner spoke with the agency to correct it they said that FL wanted $100 to change the name (the ticket itself was just over $100) but that they (the agent) would put a note in the record so that I can deal with it at BWI on the 1st. I am not worrying about checking in because I can do that online but I am worried about TSA @ BWI.

The question-
Is there anything I can do about this before I get to BWI on the 1st; if not can Airtran change the name on the reservation at the airport? Or should I get to BWI hours earlier because this is a disaster waiting to happen?

In everything that I have read from the TSA, they have said that small irregularities in the name will not cause a problem.

If its just one letter just forget about it. No one cares.
BTW, their agent doesn't know what he is doing. This company can apply for A2B Airtran Business program and get free unlimited name changes on all their tickets up to an hour before the flight. I do it all the time.

P.S. Let me know if it was foot in the door for you :)

Thanks everyone. Hopefully this will go smoothly (famous last words right).

al613- this is a small company so I doubt that they get $50K annual spend on a single airline.

RSVP- that does sound like a disaster waiting to happen. :p

Funny you should mention that....

Last time I flew FL from BWI was back in May/June 2003 and for whatever reason was in a horrible mood and running very early for my flight. At TSA I got pulled for a random screening and the screener was having a bad day also. It ended up being a good 8-10 minute back and forth battle of egos between us with me making him change gloves and not allowing him to remove anything from my sight etc etc.

I have never had such a problem with TSA at any checkpoint in the country even with SSSS on my BP.

Note to self be nicer to TSA this time.

You are correct, it is not smart to pick a battle with the TSA. They hold all the weapons.

Just because I am correct doesn't mean that I would actually follow my own advice. :p
