Hi,
I wanted to travel in mid July to Portland; however all the ticket prices are around 450 or more. I was wondering if anyone knew of any deals or methods to get a better rate than this. I am a student and can't afford these prices. I looked at going early August as well and got similar prices.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You should be able to get that fare down to about $366. by searching online - try Priceline and use alternate airports such as Seattle and do not fly on Friday or Monday.
good luck

You can always travel to another airport nearby and go from there. $450 to fly clear across the country isn't really that bad. Seattle is probably the only other major airport near Portland. You could always look for people driving across the country who might want someone to share the gas bill. Best of luck to you.

Travelocity had a $216 departing Aug 24 and returning Aug 31.
Your situation might also be a good candidate for bidding via Priceline. Sounds like you have some flexibility in dates which would let you put in a series of gradually increasing bids the same day. You can bid every 24 hours with a new series, also.
If you try bidding, a few caveats:
If your bid is successful, your credit card is charged immediately.
Be sure to watch the second page on the bidding where the taxes and fees are added in. That is what you will actually pay if your bid works.
No refunds.
Schedules can be very early and/or very late.
US Air often seems to participate in the Priceline offerings.

Thanks for all your help. Do you think prices will go down if I wait after July 4 weekend to get tickets?
Thanks

1. How much are you willing to spend?
2. What is the latest date you can depart DAY?
3. How many days do you want to spend in PDX?

I'd look into flying out of either Columbus or Cincinatti. I've done perhaps 5 Portland to Dayton round-trips, and Dayton is usually the most expensive option. Flying on Southwest out of Columbus is typically cheaper, and recently, flights to/from Cincinatti have gotten cheap. For my most recent trip about a month ago, Cincinatti was notably cheaper, which never used to be the case.

Columbus has alot of competition for a smaller market. Cinncinnati is one of Deltas hubs. Detroit might be another option since it is a hub also.
