Hi,

I am a Oneworld Sapphire level member (AA platinum).
I plan to access the Cathay PAcific lounge at Bangkok while flying Qantas from Bkk to London. I have to questions:
1. Can I bring a companion with me, even though we're travelling economy?
2. I'm a new platinum member, hence I do not have received my new card yet. Is there a way I can demonstrate them I am a sapphire level member? Would it be easier to access the Qantas/BA lounge?

thanks folks!

You can bring a traveling companion. The requirement is that he/she is also departing on an OW airline that day.

You should get your new status updated on your booking so that your new status will be on the BP.

I don't think you can access the CX lounge. I think it closes too early for your flight.

I beleive the CX lounge will be closed at the time of the BKK-LHR flights.

Unless you have your card with you, be prepared for the Agent to turn you away from the Qantas/BA lounge. They generally want to see a card despite the fact your status should be printed on your BP. Also, you might be denied a guest due to capacity. The lounge gets very crowaed for those flights.

Please refer to Qantas page:

You should be fine. You need to make sure that your OW-SA status is reflected on your booking, so that both you and your friend can be admitted. Since you are flying QF, the chance of the QF/BA lounge demanding your AA Plat card will be low.

As far as the CX lounge, it will be closed long before your flight. So the joint QF/BA lounge is probably your only option.

I'm a regular SkyTeam flyer, a bit unfamiliar with OW rules.
I will be flying CX to BKK, then connecting to a domestic airline (TG, Bangkok Airlines, AirAsia). Assuming I have a long layover, and don't cross to the domestic side, can I stop by a OW lounge and show them the C BP from the flight I have just arrived from?

In other words, can I use the airside OW lounge in BKK upon my arrival, or can I only use it before departures?

Thanks,
Bostonbali

This thread, even the original post, is more related to OW.

To answer your question, here is one of the requirements for OW lounge access (http://www.oneworld.com/ow/ffp/lounge-access#lounge-access-by-tier-status):
* Departing carrier - you must be flying on your next onward segment, on the same day, on a flight marketed and operated by a oneworld member airline AND ...

@OP. BA/QF lounge in BKK is so much nicer than CX lounge in every aspect i.e. food, drinks, magazines, computer, decoration etc.

They even have a proper shower room/spacious toilets whilst, with CX, you have to use the public toilet.

FYI, I have never been asked to show my card before. After all, it's BKK and Thai staffs are rather friendly. Flash your smile and you should not have any problems

Any particular reason why you prefer the cathay lounge?

I agree with the other posters that the QF/BA lounge is far superior to the cx offering at BKK.

Hi folks,

just to tell ya that Iwas able to get in the lounge after all even without my platinum card with me and an economy ticket only. And my wife as well. The lounge got pretty busy only about 30-40 minutes before departure, but it wasn't overcrowded at all.

Do the lounge attendants at this lounge operate strictly 'by the book,' or are they somewhat flexible?

We'll be arriving into BKK on CX in J, and will be departing on Air Asia to KBV a few hours later.

I know that we're not entitled to lounge access since we'll be arriving pax (and not departing pax), but were hoping we'd be let in anyhow.

Does anybody have any similar experiences at this lounge?

From oneworld lounge access page....

"In all cases, lounge access eligibility is based on:
.....
OR

Class of travel - you must produce a First or Business Class boarding pass for the journey's international segment on the same day"

Yes, but the bit PatMike has edited out is that even in this case you need to be departing on a OW Flight (the rule allows you lounge access is arriving J/F and departing Y).

I'd say you have negligible chance of gaining access.
