Fairmont President's Club - Anyone know how many FPC Platinum Members there are?

Usually when I check-in in int'l destinations (Live in Canada) the Presidents Club line-up is empty while there a small line at the regular check-in...

I almost always get upgrades when I check-in, are platinum FPC members rare? I have no clue myself and don't expect anyone to actually share the # but just curious. Do you notice special treatment as Platinum?

On a recent stay at Louise, I was driving from Calgary to Whistler and there was a major snow storm and driving at 30km/h was no fun so I made a pitstop at the Chateau for the night. As I pull up in my car the bellhop happily welcomes me to the hotel and gets my bags. As I checked in with a fairly new aussie girl employee who had to be fighting a hangover and not friendly at all I got my keys and walked back to the bellhop to get advice on where to eat.

He noticed my room # and immediately went back to the checkin girl and this is what I heard..."We have 20% occupency tonight and you won't even upgrade a platinum member!!!!" Later I learned he worked at the hotel since the early 80s, saw the tag and made my stay at the Chateau much better in my suite vs the Fairmont no view room on the 3rd floor I was initially assigned too. Not only did I leave him a fat tip, it also made a great impression on me in the end and I've used Fairmonts more often...

Good employees are hard to find but they can make the difference in a company, anyone ever stayed at the Fairmont Dallas, one concierge gentleman they employee is an unbelieveable character, total class ^

I am absolutely envious. Other than upgrades using my coupons, I have NEVER received any upgrades because of PLT status. I get the room I book. I do notice on FT that some PLTs get upgraded at check-in. I just haven't experienced it myself. I don't expect it, though, so I'm not disappointed. But when I hear others do get it, well, I guess that's what happens when your name is choptliva....

And special treatment? Heh heh, I'd be happy if they don't forget to deliver the plt amenities and my Fairmont fit stuff....

16,000 Platinum members at the end of 2008...
with over a million members in the president's club in total.

Platinum upgrades do happen at most hotels but you may not know of it. The arrival experence for Platinum members is usually as quick and seamless as possible.

Good for you!
I like Fairmont too. I've switched a number of stays that previously went to other brands to Fairmont. Now I'm mainly Fairmont and SPG (that's for their much wider network). Fairmont has been very good so far.
But I guess it's just me. Apart from the coupons I get as Plt, I would say my Plt (and previously Prem) status has meant very little. As I said earlier, some days I would be happy if they could just deliver the Plt welcome gift and Fairmont Fit stuff promptly. But overall, yeah, Fairmont is good.

Wow chop I'm surprised, I've had over 10 stays this year and each time I get the upgrade, a few times to a Fairmont View but I've had a good share of deluxe and junior suite/executive rooms too. At check-in my line is quite corny but it's something to the effect of "A better room is always greatly appreciated" and I usually get the response "Mr.Kokinos I'll see what I can do..." this is the point when I just put on a big grin and wait for the good news. Theres no way the check-in agent wants to turn that huge (but fake) smile into a frown before I even get in my room I guess :D

edmonton thanks for answering my question ^

And you're right, when I get an upgrade I don't think they've ever mentioned it to me when they pass me my key cards. Sometimes I don't even know it when I get in the room frankly, but I always check out the floor plan (also good to do so you know where the exits are in case of an emergency) and then I see how big my room is compared to the others :D

As a platinum I can't remember the last time I did not get an upgrade. Also I never get asked for upgrade certificates. This last week I received a 4 category upgrade at the Kea Lani.

The most spectacular upgrades for me were at the Fairmont Orchid and the Fairmont Dubai.

As far as being a platinum member when staying at the Europe and Middle East properties they do make an extra big deal about it. I was told in Dubai that it is not very common that a platinum member is on site.

Man o man, do I feel unwanted now. Am I the only plat who doesn't experience upgrades other than when using a cert? Gotta change my name to something more respectable!

I stay at the Olympic in SEA about twice a month, and usually get upgraded as a Platinum. In fact, they usually have my key when they take my car so I can go straight to the room

Well, the gods of Plt upgrades must be listening! Checked into Chateau Laurier June 30, and was upgraded to a Deluxe Room with Parliament view. WOW. What an immense and nicely furnished room! Very happy with the upgrades (which I did not even have to ask).

And when I got in, they already had the Fairmont Fit and the Plt Amenities in the room waiting for my arrival. Very nice.

Glad you finally got your turn!!! Deluxe View rooms seems to be a common upgrade I get^
