Checked into Soaltee Crown Plaza today in Kathmandu, Nepal. The initial experience was quite mixed.

My booking was for a non smoking room, and I was allotted a smoking room. It took them a while to sort things out and also arrange for a room with a double (instead of twin) bed. The rooms are quite old. I am told that I have a room with a King bed, but the bed is no bigger than a queen at best. The room is very basic. Bathroom amenities are removed and are on request. The housekeeping needs to be reminded a few times before they send you what should be in the room already.

The first few rooms that I saw seemed to have used bedsheets and dirty toilets. I was quite surprised because the hotel reviews that I saw were positive. They offered to upgrade to a better room, but wanted to charge me twice  The breakfast was very average. Internet wireless took the IT guy an hour to troubleshoot :td:

Any additional comments on this prop? Sure seems like these CPs are very hit and miss. The Jerusalem prop gets bad reviews also. SCL was fine. Thanks.

I stayed there a couple of years ago, & I've got to say I can't recommend it... The front-desk was rather shambolic - it took them half an hour to sort my rate out and give me a room (not an odd rate; not a good welcome, after a flight from London). The property was dusty and not brilliantly maintained. Food was so-so. The bar was hilariously unatmospheric. The security was haphazard - so the cab driver who made off with my camera never got traced.... Just lots and lots of moments that make you sigh with faint exasperation, rather than something that was actively awful - but still, a kinda depressing way to spend one's money.... One of the senior managers invited me to lunch, and was charming company, but I do feel that one can do better, in Kathmandu. The Hyatt, or Dwarika's, would be my choices when I return.

Thank goodness the Hyatt opened up. I was not looking forward to the CP. And this was a Oberi (spelling ?).

Did I mention I was happy the Hyat opened up? Reviewing this thread should have sent me begging for a room at the Hyatt. Yikes.
