Hong Kong - Flying LAX-NRT-HKG Next Week, Quaranine Issues at HKG?

I'm flying LAX-NRT (UA) and NRT-HKG (NH) next week, and I'm concered about a recent US Department of State Alert for travel to China.

Even though Hong Kong is technically a "SAR" of China, do the recent Quarantine Alerts still apply? Has anyone had any recent experiences with HKG and Swine Flu related quarantine/search issues? I also read that even if you've sat next to a suspect Swine Flu passenger, China can still hold you.

Thoughts?? Thank you!

Haven't been to HKG since H1N1 started, but a word of advice:

DO NOT RUN AT THE AIRPORT!

The body heat scanners combined with anxious health officers make for a not-so-ideal situation. Also, I suggest if you have a jacket, remove it to lower your body temperature.

Regarding Hong Kong, from I have been following, they are not as overly zealous as PRC, since they get to do their own health, finance, etc. (Just military/state matters are controlled by PRC). So you probably should be okay as long as you aren't sick and someone on your plane doesn't get sick. (If they do, it's another story).

Hope that helps!

colleague got quarantined in Shanghai. It was a hotel, but it was so bad, he didn't even dare to use the toilet. Luckily he was out in 18hours. False alarm on the fella in his flight 2 rows away.

Another got back from San Fran Sunday, waiting for bus to work on Monday, started vomitting and fever. Went straight to doc who suggested she go to hospital. Union hospital put her in a glass room isolation. Clean and sterile. She was also out in less than 24 hours. False alarm.

Given the choice, get yourelf quarantined in HK. It'll save your life.

Here's a trick every body uses. Get some ice from the stewardess. Wrap in in a bag and handtowel. Occasionally put it over your forehead. But don't let staff see you do this.

Quarantine in Hong Kong is no big deal, and becoming less of one every day as the number of "local" cases grows. (I should say, the FEAR of quarantine is no big deal, actually being quarantined might be a bit worse).

They have temp scanners which have been in place since SARS. They supposedly detect 100+ degrees. So if you have a fever, you might be stopped for a discussion. Other than that, they have a health form which is a joke ("Check the box if you are suffering from any of the following:")

I have heard that they will be removing the paper form now as they are shifting strategy, realising that there are plenty of local carriers and it's probably not necessary to focus on travellers at this point. So in sum, I wouldn't worry about it.

Are the heat scanners only for passengers actually entering HKG? Or are they also applied to Transit/Transfer passengers?

I am travelling to Canada at the end of the week. Could it be possible that I am quarantined/delayed in HKG transferring to a connecting flight?
