Hilton HHonors - Special Diamond Desk reservation access

I've noticed lately that the Diamond Desk has access to different inventory than what is available on the HH website.

I wanted to book a King sized room on an award at an HGI for one week. Website didn't have anything available (despite rooms being available). The best I could do was book two award stays, one for 3 days and another for 4 days (annoying!). That was allowed on the website.

I call the Diamond Desk and after checking their system, CS Rep was able to book me a week award for a discounted award rate! I just don't understand why the preferential view at the Diamond Desk. WOuld make my life so much easier if I could just book it myself some times.

Years ago they had diamond inventory not to be confused with special arrangement which has to be occupied by the diamond member
I assume they still have some inventory for diamond members that is not Special Arrangement or as some Ftalkers like to refer too call Diamond Force award rooms

These days on the website for paid rooms you get the special Diamond rate for sold out situations, or for award situations it just says call the DD. Sometimes paid stays say call the DD.

Bottom line, as a diamond I have never been denied a paid or award stay.

I think I have used the diamond paid stay guarantee 2-3 times, and diamond force/special arrangement twice now.
