At a time when they are cutting back from 4x to 3x daily to London on selected days... unlikely I guess!

That said, stranger things have happened!

Have you heard something worth sharing or you are merely hoping for this to be the case?

This was closely looked at when Oasis stated they would start this route agian. CX did some homework to find a huge amount of passengers were from the North and would use this service. Its a pity Oasis never got the chance to see if it would work.

So, drop one of the LHR flight pairs and transfer that to MAN? Otherwise, not very likely...

thought its usually the ams or cdg flight that gets to man...

Perhaps CX can do 2/3 flights per week. They just don't have enough customers for this route. They certainly have enough spare aircrafts for this route after cutting lots of flights on some other routes.

I hope that they do fly back to Manchester.
maybe a afternoon flight via CDG or FRA :p

Might make more sense via CPH, ARN or even HEL, due to airport congestion and delays at the above mentioned molochs.

Makes sense, but the best combo would be via DME just as they were about to a couple of years back and now there's even more incentive to go via DME as S7 is about to become an OW partner airline.

Not until they get an Aircraft with 16 Business Seats and around 250 Economy seats...Manchester just cannot support Premium Traffic even American are going down to 16 Business seats on MAN-ORD, and half of then will be UpGrades.

IMHO, UncleDude is right. that's why I was saying it's either CDG, AMS or FRA. Even better for CDG the plane leaving at ~1900 sits there for the whole day. So as long as they can time it right.... (AMS has a shorter layover and only 1 daily flight. FRA has higher marginal fuel cost) Going to other places needs to open up a new market, and needs the yields and everything.
And esp in CX's PoV, there are the BA codeshares- and perhaps the OW agreement has things not allowing such routes?

I'm sure CX knows full well what the incremental cost of flying a plane that otherwise sits for several hours at CDG or AMS to MAN and back is, and what incremental revenue they would need to justify that. Note that unless the planes are going out at low loads from AMS/CDG it is the extra revenue that you can get from MAN that is important. Clearly if the fare MAN-HKG is the same as the fare CDG-HKG then you can't justify going to MAN unless it fills seats on CDG-HKG that would otherwise be empty (and maybe not even then if the incremental revenue doesn't cover the incremental cost).

And on a sample size of one, when I flew HKG-MAN-HKG several years ago I was the only person in F on the AMS-MAN-AMS legs.

I have heard someone say that CX execs feel very uncomfortable dealing with their Russian counterparts. Maybe that's why the Moscow service is still flown on Aeroflot metal?

As HK SAR passport holder will have visa free to enter Russia from 01 July 09 .
Hopefully CX will think about flying to Russia and then to Manchester :p
