Nordic Countries - Where are the Swedes?

I was in Malmo, Sweden, until noon on Friday, which I didn't realize was summer solstice. The city was completely empty. I noticed the same thing in Stockholm several years ago on the longest day of the year. My question is where do the Swedes go? Is it like American Thanksgiving holiday when everyone travels home. The strange thing was Malmo Central Station didn't looked busy and Kastrup airport looked normal.

Had some great pickled herring and meatballs courtesy of my Swedish restaurant proprietor friend to celebrate Midsummer last night...Shared with some jolly Japanese friends and washed down with a good Akvavit schnapps.

Many thanks! So that explains it. Don't feel bad about not being in Europe for the solstice. If it makes you feel good, it poured in Kastrup yesterday afternoon and today it's cloudy in Reykjavik.

Don't feel sorry, I was at those latitudes in May last time. And the cloudy and rainy weather makes you appreciate those few perfect days at the waterside even more. :)
Hope you had a nice time despite the rain.

Around maypoles in the outskirts or back in their home localities. Staying in town is for those who cannot afford to get away, have nowhere to go or are visiting.
