Received this offer in the mail targeted...thick, fancy direct mail piece. This offer is way different from any I have even seen....'2,500 bonus points will be credited to your MR account 6-8 weeks after each addtl card approval. A maximum of 12 addtl cards are eligibale to earn 2,500 MR bonus points each trhough this offer. Bonus ID 1184.'

I do this about once every year for 5,000 MR points when the max is 2 addtl cards. Has anyone ever bothered to do this and order 12 addtl cards? Seems like an easy 30k points...although coming up with 12 names will be hard.(Other terms include the addtl card members cannot have had an additional card in the last 12 months. Which destroys my current system. That is the first time I noticed that term. I have 4 other direct mail offers for the 2 for 2,500 each and those have no such condition.)

I can't answer (frank_10b)...what is an FR (I don't see it in the glossary)?

As for following up, it sounds like a great offer but this explicit condition that the addt'l cards cannot go to people who had addtl cards on the account in the last 12 months is a deal breaker for me. I just cancelled those 2 people's cards this week and got the 5,000. I don't have any other people I feel comfortable signing up.

Steam of consciousness...looking at the offer again, this is on my gold personal account (and comes from Consumer Services, the 5,000 I refer to above was on a business a/c)...so I could do it but still have only 2 names that I typically use. Not sure what other 10 names I would use....

Is there some catch in coming up with bogus names? Amex will issue cards without SSNs.

Bogus? Come on. This is FT.

We do not do bogus stuff. @:-)

Couldn't a card be issued in a nickname?

SSN's do not need to be provided when issuing addtl cards right?

....

Financial Review. AMEX has strange way of red flagging certain people as potential problem makers and puts all their accounts on hold and asks for permission to contact the IRS for your personal detail. Most often the end up closing the accts and so the best bet is to close all accts immediately.
