Starwood Preferred Guest - most exasperating guests at check-in?

I arrived in the late evening at the Sheraton Louisville Riverside Hotel to find only one CSR at the desk and 3 guests waiting in line.

The first two guests want to pay cash. The CSR takes a long long time to process that request. BTW, who pays cash for a hotel room (not inclusive of sleazy motels or low-end budget chains)?

The third guest proceeds to request upgrade for being HH elite. Despite CSR's insistence that Sheraton does not participate in HH, guest continues to insist that it does. This went back and forth endlessly. I just needed a room key so I could head upstairs and really felt like telling this guy to call the HH elite line!

Certainly, someone else has a better story to share about exasperating people holding up the line, but I needed to vent about my long wait. Thanks!

Thanks... I guess I should be staying at low end budget chains or sleazy motels as I on occasion prefer to pay cash for my rooms

Well, you made the mistake to begin with. Never stay in a hotel that claims a city but is actually located in another state. ;)

Had his laptop open at spg.com inisiting that the Hotel was showing Executive Suite availability when denied a Platinum upgrade. No manners..all out aggression

The property's location was actually very convenient to the area I needed to conduct business. How does a property's location across a state line correlate with the service?

I take it you intended your remark in sarcasm?

I never said guests should pay cash only at low end budget chains or sleazy motels but rather that I've never seen it at business hotels. Most people I know don't carry several hundred in cash to settle expenses at check-out.

Besides, what self-respecting FTer would pass up extra points from the SPG AMEX or other CC program? :D

I do too, as I have no credit card after some dispute with the credit card companies and they damage my credit rating.

Have seen that "look" on receptionist face when I try to pay cash, damn, cold hard cash is more trustworthy than plastic, I reckon.

Absolutely. The most annoying people seem to be in the Gold and Platinum line, arguing over upgrades and benefits. :p

hurts me to say it but it seems the most annoying guests I see at check-in are usually Gold members, not all out pro biz travelers but halfway there and feel that they are "entitled" to an upgrade or special service.

When you do 150+ nights a year you start to have a been there done that seen this before attitude.

Oh yes it's very clear from reading FT that plats never quibble about upgrades or special service requests

Funny how annoying behaviour is always the 'other guy'.
