After a good amount of searching and reading, I am now more confused than before I started. My wife and I want to get away for 5-6 days because the kids will be in camp.

Criteria

1 Fly Delta to location - preferably direct flight - STT, AUA, BDA, or
2 Use Marriott, Hilton, SPG, or some points to offset hotel cost.
3 Snorkeling/Diving not a major interest, seeing some sites, beach and pool are.
4 Will rent car if suggested but harbor some reservations about driving on the wrong side of the street (never did that).

Have you considered SJU? Lots of sites to see, wide selection of hotels, beaches are fine, great restaurants and the flights are among the cheapest to the Caribbean.

Haven't been to SJU.... Would it be advisable to rent a car to get around - Unlike STT, no driving on the wrong side of the road stuff to worry about.

I would recommend renting a car... all of the main US agencies are there, plus Charlie Rent a Car, a local agency that's pretty well known in PR.

I would consider Aruba first as it is below the hurricane belt. We get some action when a hurricane passes by but nothing like STT, PR or any of the islands in the belt. Remember late July is hurricane time!!!
