American Express Membership Rewards - SPG sign up bonus...If I got one 5 years ago?

5 years ago I signed up for the Starwood card and performed the required spending (or hotel booking) to get the bonus. It was a modest bonus...perhaps 5k. If I sign up for another card now will I get the current bonus? IE, are they good about keeping track of who has had cards and the bonus received?

One sign-up bonus per lifetime is my understanding for this card.

Go ahead and do the business card. If you can spend $15K in six months you get a 15K point bonus in addition to a 10K first spend bonus. So spend the $15k and get 40K+ points.
Then call and ask if you're eligible for that personal one. I'll bet they say yes.

If one was business and other personal it likely will work. But they may have changed their rules.

American Express is one of the few issuers that keeps track. I remember they only gave me the difference when I reinstated my SkyMiles card.

Sorry to hijack but i have a related question... what if I changed one of my former cards into a SPG card and never got the bonus points? Could I sign up for another card and then get the bonus points?

Another question....What if you have own more than one business..Can you qualify for each business card bonus?

Using the email feature on the AMX website, this past Saturday a.m., I asked if I could get the sign up bonus my wife (15K for spending 15K within six months) (have had my Starwood AMX card for six years) or should I cancel my card and reapply...Sunday they replied and processed 3K SPG points as good will but also said I could canx and reapply.

If I remember correctly SPG Amex card was redesigned 4 years back (not sure exact time) and since then it is treated as different card from old SPG Amex card. People who applied for new card got bonus points even they got bonus with old card. If OP applied for old SPG card 5 years back, he/she will get bonus points for applying for new SPG card.
