It'll be my first time flying US next month, doing a trip from GLA-ATL, with a 90 minute layover in PHL. I notice the guide to PHL suggests a 2 hour layover is safe. What do you reckon to 90 minutes?

I'm in row 9 on my 757, so should get off fairly sharpish I reckon. Are customs and immigration (I'm a non-US Citizen) busy at 1300? Will I be able to get through them and connect to my ATL flight in Terminal C in that time frame?

Also, say I don't make it through in time, is it US's responsibility to get me on the next flight, or would I have to pay extra or anything? I don't fly much, and I've never had a problem like that. I'm just a bit of a worrier, so like to know these things just in case.

Thanks in advance for any advice and answers.

90 minutes could be either inadequate or plenty of time depending on how busy customs/immigration is when you arrive, which depends on the time the other flights from Europe arrive in relation to yours. Since US would be responsible for getting you to ATL they should put you on the next available flight (I'm assuming that PHL-ATL is also on US and the same PNR). Keep in mind that "next available" means the next flight(s) having open seats.

If you'd rather, you can call the res folks (the UK res center) and ask about being changed to a later PHL-ATL flight since 90 minutes isn't long enough to guarantee you'll make the connection, especially if the DUB-PHL flight is behind schedule. They should be accommodating if seats are available.

Thanks. I think I'll risk it, since my girlfriend is flying CO GLA-ATL (she booked her flights months ago, and they're now stupidly expensive, hence my US flights), and if I took the next PHL-ATL flight, I would arrive quite a while after her. Don't want to keep the folks picking us up waiting longer if it's not necessary.

Appreciate the answer though, gives me something less to worry about.

On occasion, the lines to re-check in for the us domestic portion of the flight in PHL are unreal. It's a risk but I sometimes will exit the A terminal (you sorta have to ask a TSA officer, to guide you out of the masses without looking like you are jumping the line), and then use one of the other terminals to go through security. You can either walk, or if an employee bus is stopped as you are exiting A, jump on and get off at C go through security there.

Nothing to add ... Just happy that you read the guide.

It's usually pretty quick but for my last international trip (May '09) the lines were longer and slower but def less maybe 30 minutes if that. I was all the way in the back of the plane and I traveling with a non US citizen. You should be fine just make haste. Good luck!
