Hilton HHonors - London: Kensington or Euston? Aug, both with a/c

Same price, both with air conditioning in August. I have never stayed at either. I thought you could book as an HHonors guest a single and get a double free. I surely would not want one of their single rooms. Going with Mr. Karen2. Chances of getting lounge access, decent upgrade as Gold? Thanks.

Don't count on it. METROPOLE.

Stayed at Euston earlier this week for 1 night.
No Lounge or so. Got a little upgrade.
Hotel itself nothing special. Ah, it seems to have a gym station. At least saw the ad for it.
Got a room on the 3rd floor and it was really loud/noisy during the night due to an outside a/c or so. Not a very good night for me.
Breakfast was as expected.

At the Kensington I have always gotten exec lounge access as both a G or D. Almost all the rooms are small, the a/c has always worked and I like the surrounding area.

If it is not too late, stay at Metropole. I stay 4 times per year.
Larger than the other two. I think better location.Very nice Exec lounge-second floor-good food drinks-breakfast and afternoon/evening - good area-lively- at Edgware road tube. 100 meters or so. Also, short walk to Paddington Station.
(brown-green-yellow-pink lines) South on Praad st. are many nice inexpensive rest-all varieties.
If you select "room upgrade" under "my Way" benefits you may get room upgrade however you will get Exec Lounge access as gold. This may also happen even if using points.

Regularly stay at both of them.

First, the Metropole, as recommended by some. If you are looking for something that feels like a faceless and anonyous megachain, that's the place for you IMHO. Stayed there once, never returned. When I asked for lounge access, they said yes provided I also downgraded the room...

There is no lounge at Euston, but the rooms are bigger.

Kensington has a great lounge, a good quality restaurant and bar but tends to let itself down on the small details. Hot breakfast in the exec lounge, free hot and cold snacks, soft drinks and alcohol from about 5pm till 8:30pm.

My recommendation: Kensington.

Hmm. Some of you seem to forget that the OP is not a Diamond member like some of the posters who responded to her query, but a mere Gold member, so it is always questionable that your experiences will mirror that of the OP, especially since there have been Diamond members who have complained in other threads about the Kensington.

Secondly, IMHO, I think it imprudent for the OP to book a single bed room for two people, expecting to be upgraded to a Double bed room -- that will fit two people. I fully believe that the hotel management would be within its rights to deny such an "upgrade" to the OP, and instead give them a room on a higher floor, or a better view or even grant them lounge access and leave it at that -- letting the OP to sort out who among her party will sleep on the floor.

I would go for Kensington over Euston every time. I have been both Gold and Diamond over the years but never missed an upgrade. Granted, as Gold, you no longer get the gratuitous lounge upgrade if you don't get a room upgrade to exec level.

If Metropole was within 10 GBP of Kensington, I would go there. I prefer it, but would not spend significantly to stay there vs. Kensington
