Does anyone have any recommendations for a Glatt Kosher establishment in Istanbul?
Carne(http://www.carne.com.tr) seemed to be the most popular choice, but they are temporarily closed. I tried emailing them for more info, but I never got a reply.

Istanbul Izak Alalouf 90-532-2977669
Istanbul Yossi Haliwa 90-533-3380898
Istanbul Isaac Peres 90-532-5534335
Here are some numbers of some Rabbis in Istanbul who can help you out.
I will try getting hold of their e-mail addresses and put them up tomorrow
Best regards
The Kosher Restaurant Database at shamash.org lists a couple of kosher places. But if you're very particular about Glatt then you really do need to check out the LORs and decide whether you want to rely on them.

Yes, I saw that too. But I'm hoping to find someone with first-hand experience there

Hmmm, it's a shame Carne is closed -- I ate at there when I was in Istanbul (actually I ate there once, and had them deliver to my hotel on Friday night so it was served by room service and added to my hotel tab). The rest of the time we just stayed vegetarian; wish I could be more helpful.

can anyone recommend a guide to take me around to all the shuls?
(and a good guide in general for the other sites)

You don't need a guide I did this myself in Istanbul, plus went for Shabos service, you will need to fax in your Passport by Thursday night otherwise you probably cannot get in for Maariv or Shaharit.

any new updates for kosher there? Seems like the only option is the nursing home. (the reviews at levi's make me not even count it as an option)
Also with the political situation this past year between Israel and turkey is turkey still considered a safe destination?

Just a reminder, if you're planning to visit synagogues, you need to submit a copy of your passport in advance.

I wrote them an email to try and get some insight. Will post their reply. Anyone know if there are kosher packaged snacks in the lounge?

Besides a Club in the US, the only other Club I ever remember seeing some cookies or chips that were kosher was @ LGW or LHR(besides TLV). No Country has a large enough Jewish population, even in the US its not done in order to have some kosher products.
Your best bet may be to see if the local community has a list of foods that arent marked with any symbol or that says kosher on it but its accepted as being kosher by the local community.
Or simply raid the galey before they close it up before landing in IST and take any Israeli products with you thats acceptable to you
When I was there a few weeks ago I had a look around, but they seemed to have very little packaged stuff, never mind kosher.
