I am planning to cancel my SPG Amex-it makes no sense for me to pay an annual fee on a card I barely use any longer.
I know Amex has not been shifting credit lines since last fall, but has anyone tried this recently? I'd like to send the credit line to my HH Amex.
In addition, has anyone been offered a recent waiver of the annual fee to keep it open? I assume since Amex has been closing accounts lately, that they would not be proactive in keeping any alive.

I think they offered me $25 statement credit to keep it open. I put anywhere from 2-4k a month on it.

I recently read that they will make a shift, but only to a Delta product, and that you'll need to escalate to a supervisor to do so.

Update- I just called to cancel. No offer of a waiver or reduction on the annual fee and they would not move the credit line to another account.
I know this is a favorite card of many, but recently has not been beneficial to me to keep open.

So, if they had offered to waive the annual fee, would the card magically have become beneficial for you to keep open?

No..I still would rarely use it,but since they would not move the credit line to another card,it would have helped my utilization ratio to leave it open.

What about a conversion? That way you don't lose the credit line.

Unavailable as of October 2008. There are rumors that it has just become available again, but only if moving to a Delta Amex product.
They will usually no longer cooperate on these type of requests.

No conversion for me either despite being a Centurion cardholder. I am moving from SPG to Hilton Surpass.
