I am really thinking which is more worth it and would like any ideas/input from everyone

a.) 80K = 2 one way Y->J long haul upgrade Asia to N. America
b.) change 4~5 intra asia tickets in Y

I know I can keep it till later on for the bonus miles to kick in, but i'm flying to N. America before it starts so thats only better if i keep the miles till the sale starts

Thanks guys!^

I would always go for the long-haul upgrades!

Upgrading or then redeeming on normally expensive routes like Gimpo - Haneda or Honqgiao - Haneda etc

For me ...

1. Long Haul Upgrade
2. Medium Hual Y with Open-jaw or in peak season (e.g. Japan)

For me it's a no brainer, long haul upgrades.

Or if wallet is tight then yeah, save them for Y redemptions.

Long Haul Upgrades of course.
You get value for your miles.

FYI, a oneworld award in zone 5 (4,001 to 7,500 miles) can also be had for 80k miles in J. The good thing about these awards is that you can make a maximum of five stopovers, two transfers and two open-jaws.

the catch is, at least 2 airlines without CX/KA or at least 3 airlines with either CX or KA. (not sure about CX AND KA) and these are total distance. Total flying miles of up to 7500. So it's a bit hard to go to japan, say.

OP seems to be considering North America. Zone 5 award is not good enough. A round trip to North America already exceeds 7500 miles.

Intra asia is possible... HKG-BKK-BOM-SIN-HKG for 6958 miles in total<7500 in J

Right, i know, i'm just stating the possibility...

or, HKG-JPN-AUS-HKG in Y

I don't know what the OP meant by "b.) change 4~5 intra asia tickets in Y" but some intra-Asia flights (e.g. domestic Japan) are quite expensive so a oneworld award can prove to be quite good value depending on one's needs.

Thanks Kchika, CXfan1960 and kaka for your thoughts, i never heard about zone 5 awards. It is done via MPC/Asiamiles as well?
I guess i wasn't clear in my OP, the i usually fly intra asia at least once a month sometimes more (biz + leisure), but i have 2 business trips to N. America and thought i'd use my miles for upgrade for these.
What other OW zone awards are there?

Yes, it is done with MPO. Refer to the oneworld award chart (https://www.asiamiles.com/am/en/redeem/charts#3).
