This will be my first trip report, and also, perhaps, one of the first reports of EI's new Premier (J) class service on FlyerTalk.
I apologize for the low quality of some of the pics, as they were taken with my phone.
I booked this trip as a family holiday in April. I had orginally booked to travel Y class, but I was sent an email from EI offering an upgrade to Premier for €400 per person, per flight. I jumped at the opportunity and took the upgrade on the outbound leg DUB-BOS.
Yes I did mean to say DUB-BOS, which brings me to EI's first letdown of the trip. Three days before we were going to travel, I received a voicemail from EI to tell me that our flight to BOS has been cancelled. I was given three options. 1. Fly on Saturday instead of Monday 2. Fly on Tuesday (these options were no use due to hotel reservations and prior engagements) 3. Fly to JFK and connect to BOS with Jet Blue. I chose the latter. I was offered no apology, no compensation for lost time/inconvenience and when I asked why the flight was cancelled, the lady on the phone simply said "I don't know". I did however call back the following day to find out why I was not offered seats on the DUB-SNN-BOS flight the same day (It slipped my mind earlier) and, after being on hold for 20 mins and then a further 5 while the guy went to ask about my flight, I found out that there were only two remaining Premier seats, no use because we were a group of three, and one of EI's A330's was out of use for "servicing".
Flight 1
Route: DUB-JFK
Flight No: EI-109
Type: A330-300
Reg: EI-DUZ
SDT: 5:00pm (on time) Arrival Time: 7:25pm EDT (Actual 6:50pm)
Actual Flight Time: 6 hours 30 mins
Load: J 30% Y 100%

Because of route change, we were now not leaving Dublin until 5:00pm instead of 1:50pm on EI 137. Instead of arriving in BOS at 3:45pm, we would now arrive in JFK at 7:25pm and BOS at 12:00am (or 5am Dublin time!!).
We arrived at the airport at approx. 2pm and proceeded to the EI Premier/Gold Circle check-in desk. After waiting for 10 mins due to a guy infront who's ticket was somehow wrong (it's all I caught of the conversation), we dropped our bags and proceeded through the Buisness Fast-Track security lane. After a few mins browsing the duty free, it was time to go to the lounge. There are many reports on the current state of EI's DUB lounge, and it is currently no better. I found the lounge to be ok, anything is better than standing at the gate for hours, although the toilets were very bad. They were unclean, fixtures were broken, part of the mirror was missing. Even the roof was filthy. A definite let down there. The main toilets at the gates were in better condition.

Since the route changed, so did the equipment. I was supposed to be on a A332, but now I was going to be on an A333, meaning I only had a 50% chance of getting the new Premier product on board. I was very relieved to see one of EI's newest A333 standing at my gate. EI-DUZ, delivered within the last year :-)

Boarding commenced on time at 4:15pm, however the pre clearence for US Immigration was skipped. After those needing assistance boarded, Premier pax were called. As we were walking through the jetbridge, one of us was called to the side by a security guard for a random search. Two minutes later we were at the plane. The stewardess checked our boarding pass and directed us to the forward cabin, without so much as a "Welcome on board".
The new Recaro seats in Premier are a huge improvement. They offer 52 inch pitch, 20 degree angled lie flat position and AVOD, which was available to watch from boarding. It was obvious to see that the aircraft was given a very quick clean before we boarded. Underneath the armrest, where the main seat controls are, was full of crumbs and stained. My only complaints about the seats themselves would be a lack of storage space, especially when in the lie flat position, and the video screen, which I'll come to later, also if travelling alone, ensure you get a middle aisle seat because when the seat next to you is in the sleeping position, you have to climb over the person next to you to get out.

After J class was fully loaded, the champagne was brought with the menu + L'Occitaine amenity kit and the captain came on to say that we would have an unusually short flight, only 6 hours 30 mins, due to a tailwind crossing the Atlantic. This was the first time I'd ever heard of such an occurance, but today it would only serve to lessen my time in Premier and increase my wait in JFK.
Pushback was at 5:02pm we taxied to join the take off queue for Runway 10. Takeoff was at 5:20pm. First, we flew straight out over the Irish Sea before making a long left turn to cross the Irish coast over County Meath and eventually leaving the Atlantic coast over Sligo.

About 20 mins after take off, canapés were served. This consisted of Spring Rolls and Chicken and Pineapple skewers. There were tasty enough, but of a huge tray, the FA only waited for everyone to take two pieces(of four selections). After that, lunch...I was expecting dinner on such a late TA flight, was served.
Menu:
To Start..
A selection of hot Canapés:- Served with a sweet chilli dip
Smoked Salmon:- Slices of succulent oak smoked salmon served with diced red oinion, capers, mayonnaise and a wedge of lemon.
OR
Buffalo Mozzarella:- Served with slices of ripe beef tomato, basil leaves and a sweet red oinion mamalade.
Selection of Bread
Salad Bowl
Entrées..
Fillet Steak Medallions:- served with fennel rosti, fresh broccoli, sautéed red oinion and mushrooms in a green peppercorn gravy
OR
Chicken Mesquile:- served with corriander and lime couscous, mixed roast peppers and spring oinions.
OR
Fish Pie:- Fresh salmon, prawns and North Atlantic cod baked in a rich creamy sauce and topped with mashed potatoes, served with steamed broccoli, leeks and sun-blushed cherry tomatoes.
OR
Ricotta Tortellini:- stuffed with fresh ricotta cheese in a rich tomato and fresh basil sauce with a spaghetti of fresh market vegtables.
Desserts...
Warm Rhubarb Crumble
OR
Passion Fruit Mousse
Cheese Plate
Tea or Coffee
Afternoon Tea....
Selection of Scones
Fresh Sandwich Selection
Wine List....
Red Wine:-
Callabriga Alentejo Reserva, 2004, Sogrape
Ch. Mancedre, Pessac-Leognan, Graves, 2004
White Wine:-
Castagnolo Orvieto Classico Superiore, 2008, Barberani
One Tree Sauvignon Blanc, 2007
Unfortunatley I'm neither a fan of salmon nor cheese, but I like cheese less so the salmon it was. It actually wasn't bad and the salmon eater among us gave good feedback. I then had, what appeared to be the only steak on board, accompanied by the Alentejo. The passenger in 1A ordered the Fish Pie and after two of us ordered the steak, the FA came back and informed us there was "only one left". My neighbour settled for the chicken, which he said was good, but to me tasted just like the usual EI economy chicken dinner. The steak was nice, although a little dry and the wine was good and topped up regularly. For dessert I had the passionfruit mousse, which was quite tasty and was a good sized portion.

After the meal was cleared away, as usual the cabin crew dissappeared for a few hours. If you want another drink from now one, you must walk up and ask for it. In the meantime I decided to check out the new AVOD system. It had a selection of about 12 recent movies and about 14 tv-shows. I decided to watch an epsiode of Top Gear first and then Slumdog Millionaire and Fost/Nixon, both excellent movies. The touch screen is kind of useless as you have to unbuckle your seatbelt to reach the screen, and it can be quite slow to react and sometimes unresponsive. Luckily the remote does everything anyway. The screen can be adjusted for glare, but is totally unwatchable one above the clouds with the window shade open. This meant I had to close the shade, and evertime I wanted to look out, I was blinded because of the dark cabin. The speed, altitude and other info on the inflight map dissappeared soon after take off and didn't reappear until the decent. Also the time and distance to destination had always said zero when it was there. It may have a few flaws, but overall it's a decent enough system.

I found the seat to be very comfortable and mostly easy to use. The buttons are located under the armrest, and pre-set buttons for T/O , landing and dining are beside the cocktail tray. It is also possible to set your own memory positions, but after a few attempts at it I gave up. I checked the in flight magazine, but no help there.

After what seemed like only an hour of two after dinner, we began our decent over Boston, with nice clear views of Logan Int'l where I should have landed a few hours ago, and the city. The decent got quite bumpy due to thick cloud cover south of Boston (which, even until yesterday hadn't cleared away) The FA came around to collect the headsets, but saw I was still immersed in Frost/Nixon and passed over me. The movie finished two mins before touchdown. The weather in New York was misty and I could just about make out the skyline on final.

Premier pax were allowed to disembark first and we proceeded to Immigration, where we got stuck at such a slow counter, we were one of the last to reach the baggage claim.
After picking up the bags, customs forms were collected and we proceeded to the connection desk, where our boarding cards for Jet Blue were waiting for us and we were on our way to T5 within a minute.

JFK's Terminal 5 is actually pretty nice. Plenty of shops, and it's right beside the runway for spotting (if you're there during daylight that is). Although, overpriced is a word I would say. We went to a certain place called Cheeseburger Cheeseburger. For two burgers, fries, two soft drinks and a coffee, it was over $40. I couldn't believe it.

It was the equvielant of after 3am in Dublin, so I was pretty tired by now. I just sat by the gate and made use of the free Wi-Fi until boarding. Once onboard, I was pleasently surprised. There was more legroom than EI's TA Y class seats. Each seat has a seatback TV with about 60 channels of LIVE tv available as soon as you sit down. Not only that but, after take off, the FA's came around with FREE full sized cans of Coke, A FREE bottle of water, FREE crisps and cookies. If this is economical low cost flying in the USA, why the hell is Ryanair still in buisness. Please Jet Blue, come to Europe, PLEASE.
Take off was delayed by the very fact that it was JFK, but landing in Boston was on time. This is the best short haul flight I've ever had, bar none. I was very pleased with Jet Blue and would definitley fly with them again. It was such a relief to have comfort after 16 hours of travelling and waiting around.
After disembarking and walking to baggage claim, there was a slight wait until the bags arrived. Then we were out the door and in a taxi to the hotel at last :-)
Thank you for reading. Return report to be added very soon.
