Starwood Preferred Guest - Four Points Midtown, New York pre opening discussion

I have done a search, but cannot seem to find any info. Looking at the new Fourpoints NYC Midtown, does anyone have any updated info on opening and catagory this property will be? SPG.com is not taking reservations at this time, only for groups. Has this project been scraped? Seems like March is just around the corner. Thanks.

According to there website they will open March 26, 2009. Also, I'm almost certain they will be a category 5, due to the location.

Seems odd that they are only taking group reservation inquiries.

Taking group bookings first is normal for a new hotel. Look at the Ws in Ft. Lauderdale/South Beach--same deal. Conventions and large meetings are booked sometimes years in advance so it makes sense to reach out to them before the hotel officially opens.

Still end of March? or "running behind schedule" (ie. don't want to open another hotel during this economic downturn).
Also, what will SPG category be?

The latest internal information suggests May 2009 as the opening date now.

I would think that someone at the hotel (ie. the developer/franchise owner) would want to communicate with starwood/spg to update the website.

The Four Points in Chelsea is not bad at all-- in case you're interested.

About an hour ago I drove by this hotel. They've got more than a little work to get accomplished in the next month. And not the nicest of locations -- kinda rough.
