OK...so I scoured all the forums to try to think of the best forum to post this in and since this is regarding online travel booking and could really fit into about three different forums on here, I'm going to give this a whirl.

I'm trying to go to Australia for a mini-trip in early August. Right now, I'm looking at booking my Qantas flight on my AAdvantage MasterCard and I want to book my Hilton Hotel on my HHonors Visa. Right now, the total for both comes out to around $1,170.

Now, I was checking currency exchange rates on another site and then clicked a link from that site to a travel company. It is offering me a combined rate with the same flights and same hotel (except no breakfast but that's not a biggie as I'm only staying three days) for just over $200 less than booking the flight and hotel separate.

So I was wondering. Is it best to spend more to book separate to maximize points and will the additional points I get for booking separate be worth it?

Or, should I go ahead and just take the cheaper deal.

Any help would be great.

Thanks.

I am assuming you will still get points on a credit card for the $970 you will be spending (you said about $200 less than the $1170 you quoted).

For me, I would MUCH rather save $200 for 200 less points - no points in any program are worth $1/point.

Easy decision for me - go with the cheaper and save the $200. That will buy way more than three breakfasts :D

That was my initial thought. I could end up getting 970 AAdvantage points or 970 HHonors points if I booked the package.

However, if I purchased them separate, then I would get 574 AAdvantage points and at least between 10,000 and 11,500 HHonors points. (For just purchasing...I'm not talking about the miles for the flight and points for the hotel stay.)

So it's not really a difference of 200 points. There's a lot more involved in this particular situation.

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear when I originally tried to explain things.

Exactly. Also you will probably get more and better replies if you would use a more descriptive title.

What is the point differences if you book the package on your Hilton card?
