Hi!

I'd like to book a stay for my parents.

I was wondering if there was a system like at SPG where I can make the booking under my SPG#, use my dad's credit card to confirm the booking, then call to have my dad added as a registered guest. Then he can check in with his credit card and name.

By the time they use the reservation I will have plat status. I don't care if I get credit for the stay or not. But if booked under my FPC# would they get the plat benefits too? welcome amenity, etc?

Or is it best to have him sign up for his own FPC membership and book under that?

I plan to give them an upgrade cert either way.

Thanks!

Upgrade certificates have your name on them, and your FPC number. He will not be able to do this according to Fairmont's T+C's

I thought that as a Plat they were transferrable to immediate family members? eg. parent, siblings, etc.

Has that changed?

Platinum certificates are still transferable between immediate family members. So as long as you recive the welcome package and letter before the stay, it should be OK.

That's great!

So back to the original problem:

Can I book the room for my parents under my FPC# and status - booked in my name but his credit card, add his name as a registered guest, and he can check in with his credit card -- would that work?

-would he get my plat benefits during the stay?

-or is it best for my dad to just sign up for his own FPC, make his own booking, and then I just give him the room upgrade cert to use.

do that one... cause the other one is against the T+C of the program and may raise something at the reception desk. all the basic benifits are there anyways for Club members.

As an update:

He got his own FPC and then used my plat room upgrade cert.

One of the customer service reps said there was another way to do it: That I could pay for the room and sign a form that they would fax to me saying that I was taking care of the room costs, etc for the guest. There was some kind of special form I could fax back to them - then it would be under my FPC account.

not sure if that would get me a stay credit though. didn't go that route anyways.

thanks for everything edmonton2001!

I think it would, I book a single room for my biz partner and I when we're out of town, occasionally I get delayed and don't show up. I call the hotel let them know I won't be able to make it and even though my biz partner is in the room I get the stay credit.
