Hertz - Beware gouging with bonus PC 130804 (dbl pts, dbl upgrade)

I had a reservation at RDU that I had cancelled a week ago when my trip was cancelled, but now that it is reinstated I rebooked the car. This time around, having seen the Double #1 Points and Double Upgrade offer, I entered PC 130804 into the reservation. The car rate shot up from $40 per day to $76 per day! As you can imagine, I quickly abandoned that effort and rebooked without the 'bonus' for the original $40 daily rate.

I can upgrade the car two classes for under $10 per day, actually quite a bit less due to my corporate contract. What a ripoff and how sleazy to offer something as a bonus to #1 Gold customers but in reality sell it at a hugely inflated rate.

Between the delayed gas 'refilling' charges, the unilateral rate changes and things like this, I now feel I need to keep my hand of my wallet and check my watch whenever I visit Hertz.

There is absolutely nothing new here. Some bonus codes make things more expensive as they are based on standard weekday rates. If you weekend rate is much cheaper there is a good chance you'll see a drastic difference even with $ off applied.

Not limited to Hertz either: Delta 5K mileage promo with Avis leads to inflated rates on most occasions.
