Just a heads up,
Email just arrived that there is the second UK Grab It Reverse Auction, this time LHR-AKL From Noon on Tuesday 16th June
Prices will drop at random intervals.
Hope there are some good drops bearing in mind the current Singapore Sale to NZ that starts tomorrow at £359 inc Tax for travel Sept 09 Thru March 10
But don't expect Airpoint $s, I just got back from the last one £8 + Tax to Hong Kong, it credited at 60 Status each way but no Airpoint Dollars even though the fare descriptor said it would earn Status Points and $s.

Thanks for sharing, but - was £411 for LHR-AKL (and zero FF credit) the best they could offer? I doubt if there were (m)any takers.

I know
Really naff. I watched from the start at noon there were only 7 seats showing at the start at £701!!!!!
That did not move all day till it drifted down to £411 at 6pm then 2 sold.
Really poor show compared to the recent £150ish Hong Kong Returns. and the stupid limited date range did not help (3 Weeks in Sept only) Come-on!!!!
Maybe the poor sales will send them a message, especially with SingAirs current £359 to CHC and that allows stopovers. And bookable thru to Mar2010

The message of the SQ fares has certainly been received - the question for NZ is whether to consider commercial suicide by matching it? UKL359 is way below the actual cost of the fuel required for the journey - and that's with the UK tax excluded - adding the cost of the tax to the ticket still wouldn't cover the cost of the fuel.
£359 is somewhat less than the price of most tickets to Spain from within Europe during the school summer holidays. The SQ sale is commercial insanity that damages the industry and ultimately, the customer (although customers don't feel like it at the time).

Bearing in mind that taxes for LHR-AKL return are about £300 or so (depending on routing) then £411 for LHR-AKL return is serious marginal pricing by NZ, though it is less marginal than BA/VS on LHR-JFK/EWR which charge as little as £30 plus tax!
