I have both an Amex gold and a Starwood preferred amex. I have lots of reward points with Amexand called to transfer them to my Starwood account since I fly US Airways and I cannot use those points from my gold card. When I got the Starwood account they told me I could transfer my points on a 1 to 1 basis. Now they just told me that I would lose 2/3 of them by transferring. Has anyone had the experience of transferring rewards to Starwood? If so did you lose points?

mia is right, its always been 3 MR points for 1 starpoint. Terrible value. Save the MR points for something else.

But going into SPG from the AmEx MR program is a 3:1 ratio which is pretty terrible. As suggested above, save them for something else unless you have to transfer them immediately. And if that is the case consider putting them somewhere else that has more value than SPG.

As others have stated, the standard transfer rate between MR and SPG is 3:1. In the past, they have occasionally had "sales" where the ratio is 2:1, but it's been awhile since the last time this happened.

Your confusion is caused by not realizing that the Starwood Amex does not participate in MR - instead, net monthly spend gets transferred into SPG points on a 1:1 basis as soon as the statement closes, and does not accumulate in the MR account. So, spending on your Starwood Amex earns SPG points on a 1:1 basis, and spending on your regular Amex Gold accumulates MR points on a 1:1 basis. If you then want to transfer accumulated MR points to SPG, the ratio is 3:1.
