Budget - How to Note Prior Damage Before Leaving Lot ?

I have not done a lot of car rentals. I know with Thrifty once they had a postcard size yellow card on the dash of the rental for you to note prior damage on.
Before checking out through the guard gate you could hand the card to him to initial the areas you circled on the card showing it was prior damage.
How does Budget do this and what do you get in return proving you pointed it out to them prior to leaving the lot?

Depends on what airport you go to, I used to work for Budget and we would pre-inspect the vehicle, give the customer the damage report and let them know if they find any additional damage to return to the rental counter and notify us and we would adjust the damage report sheet.

I always do the walk around and then tell the person checking me out what and where the damage is. They note it on my agreement, I verify it and I leave.

Thanks for all of the input but here will be my likely path.
I will check in via Fast Break counter or kiosk. I may get some paper at that point but no car yet.
I will then go to the garage (in this situation) to get my car. If at this point I find damage do I go back into the airport or proceed to the exist and haggle with them at the exit booth.
If the proceedure is typically to have it noted at the exit booth I am not comfortable with the verbal "we will note it in the system please move along-exit".
Does budget have some kind of a prior damage card you fill out in advance (like on the dash of the car) before you get to the exit booth where you have them sign and hand you a carbon back from it. Or how do you make them provide you at least something in writing somehow somewhere noting prior damage you find before leaving?
Thanks, Again
I just call when I see something. Have it noted in their system.

I frequently rent from a neighborhood Budget- last time there was some damage on the car and they said oh don't worry about it. I got out my cellphone and started taking pictures. They came running out with a form to record the damage. I now take pictures with my cellphone and then email them to myself as a record and date stamp.
