Marriott Rewards - Upgrade for golds at Montreal Marriott??
Anybody have any experience to report on for a Gold member at the Montreal Marriott? Do they honour Gold upgrade and/or club lounge access?
Any comments about this and the hotel would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Those benefits are not property optional.

To share the experience, both me and my colleague had separate stays in August 2008 in this hotel and we both got upgraded to have access to club lounge. I even got upgraded to a Junior Suite which was huge!

I have stayed at the Montreal Chateau Champlain (the only full scale Marriott in town) about 10 times in the last 2 years. Rooms are large; however, for a hotel of this size (592 rooms), they don't have many suites (only 19). I was upgraded to a suite only once. All Gold members have concierge lounge access. The lounge is pretty standard fare, with the exception of the smoked salmon (lox) offered with the continenetal breakfast. Lounge is closed on weekends; however, gold members receive breakfast coupons.
If you don't get upgraded, ask for a high floor room with a city view. The view of downtown with Mount Royale as a backdrop is spectacular.

Haha, i'm used to intercontinental hotel group and their random upgrading of platinum/ambassadors.
This will be my first reservation with gold status. One more question, does the same hold true about upgrades even on at a low early prepaid reservation?
Thanks everyone for their responses.

Ditto on asking for a high floor facing downtown. I was in a regular room, which was large enough and very nice. It's a nice property. The CL lounge had slim pickings for breakfast, like most Marriotts these days.
Just one additional, kinda off the wall thing...
The shuttle bus in from the airport drives right past the hotel. They will drop you off in front of the hotel if you let them know you are staying at the Marriott. It's as fast as a cab, but less than half the price. Going back to the airport, you take a shuttle to the bus station, where you need to purchase a ticket and get on a bus that leaves every thirty minutes. IMHO, it's not worth taking the bus back to the airport. Take a cab.
And yes, you will always get access to the CL, no matter the rate you are paying. I've had fantastic upgrades on very cheap rates, and been given a crappy room when I've paid full rate. Once, at the JW in SF, I had a corporate rate of barely over $100/night, used an EEO certificate for the second night, and was still upgraded to one of the nicest suites I've ever seen. The next time I was in the hotel, paying full rate, I had a view of a wall.

check you account on the day-of-checkin ... your upgrade is usually already in the system.
