First of all, I think the new "M" Resort is fantastic...great decor, very cool pool, fantastic buffet, really nice restaurants, etc. etc. Worth every penny of the $1 Billion it cost to build.
One of their very cool features is the fact that they have free soft drink dispensers located throughout the casino floor - just step up, fill your glass with ice (if it hasn't run out on a busy weekend night) and get your Coke or lemonade or whatever.
So far, so good.
However, the cocktail waitresses are the most aggressive, borderline nasty you have ever met. They will see you have your soft drink cup full and still ask if you want a drink - not just in passing, but come up to your face and demand an answer!
Now I know they live from tips, and it probably pisses them off that they are not getting tips for these soft drinks, but still...
I mean, there is nothing wrong with walking the aisles saying, "Drinks, Cocktails..." and waiting for someone to wave them over, but seeing you have your Coke in a cup at your machine - and then asking, "Drinks?" and leaning over and literally putting their face in yours and asking again, "Drinks?!" is a bit much.
I have politely said "no thank you" the last five times you walked by and demanded an answer - what possibly makes you think I have suddenly decided to toss this Coke order a scotch and soda now?!
Yes, in the grand scheme of things, this is a minor nitpick, but wow - they are really getting aggressive there.

I'd be peeved, also, to be making half the tips as other Vegas cocktail waitresses do because of the self-serve soda fountains. And they can no longer make you go thirsty in the desert in retaliation for stiffing them. They can't take their frustration out on management, so you're it. See, of course, cocktaildoll.com .

I know one of the waitress supervisors at M, I'll relay your comments to her.

... then they should go work where all the other cocktail waitresses are working. ;)

I'll be in the area tomorrow, I will stop by and test the aggressive waitress theory. Hopefully they are a least cute if they are that aggressive.
Anyone know if you can play BJ at the pool if you are not staying there?

Hmm...interesting. At the same time, pools are generally off-limits except to guests spending the night, or buying a pool pass. Green Valley Ranch started cracking down on locals "sneaking in" to their pool area and now toss them out. I know "M" has a "resort fee" attached to the price of a room that I believe is the only way you can access the pool (by having this access card).
I will have to look into this gray area - rights of the casino to limit access to pool vs. allowing anyone access to a gaming area.

Does anyone know of any gaming areas in Las Vegas that are oipen to the public but are in off-the-beaten path locations / not generally advertised? For example on an upper floor of a hotel....
Oops, I meant to start a new thread. I'll leave it here.

It would be an interesting loophole to get in some pool areas (e.g., the Hard Rock).

I stopped by the M for a few hours last week. I did not experience the aggressive cocktail waitress, but it was the during afternoon. The 2 that came to my table were friendly and very attractive. From an attractive cocktail waitress scale the few I saw at M were better looking than most the ones I saw Wynn/Encore, which use to be almost all Playboy material.
The dealers were also very friendly, and they had $10 double deck. I don't know when the last time I've seen that on the strip was (maybe never, but I don't get around that much).

I thought I had read that somewhere. Probably here and probably posted by QL a few years ago.
I walked out to the M pool to have a look around and did not see anyone checking room keys.
I asked at the Encore pool about being able to play at the pool tables when not staying at the hotel and was told. "If you are playing inside and want to play at the pool, security is suppose to escort you out to the the pool and make sure you are actually just going to gamble, but they said in reality they usually do not get security involved".

I was very, very impressed with the M. I was able to go to the soda fountain and make myself a mix-up. The buffet is competitive with any other in town. The steak house offers a pound of lobster tail for $55, I'm going back for it. The only thing I didn't like about the M was that I missed a hot roll while I was eating in the buffet.
I can't wait to stay there.

It is me, the OP again.
OK, so I have gone back to "M" about six times since that original post (told you, I like the place.) I usually go late afternoon or early evening.
Maybe it is just me, but seriously - those cocktail waitresses just don't stop. I don't play tables - just machines. They can see I have my full Diet Coke in my plastic cup and STILL they will come up to me and say, "Drinks?" and stand there looking at me until I answer them and say "No thanks."
Maybe I have some kind of vibe I give out or something. As mentioned, I really like the place, but somebody must have put an invisible target on my back saying, "This guy tips big!" or something...

Wow I live in Vegas (Summerlin actually) and never even heard of the new M resort. I'll have to check it out but then I realized it's way out there in Henderson.
They must just get people coming from LA to go there as it seems like a big hassle to get there from the airport. Prob take me an hour to drive there which is forever in Vegas.
Any freebies?

It is only about 6 miles from the airport. I assume it attracts the same people that would stay somewhere like Red Rock or Green Valley.
I was a bit surprised that most or the locals I talked to a couple weeks ago had no clue it was even there. I guess there is so much going on around Vegas that the opening of an off strip hotel is not much news.

According to google maps it's 12miles from the airport which is the same as forever for Vegas lol. For comparison, the MGM is 2 miles from LAS.
I was surprised that it's even way past South Point which I already consider way out in the middle of nowhere lol.
I hope it works out for them but it just seems like a bad idea. A cab ride would be $40+ to visit each way or $80RT so I doubt anyone would go there if they were flying in and if they did, they'd be stuck there unless they had a rental car.

I'm surprised you haven't heard about "M." I thought it was very well publicized and really packed over the first few weeks it was open, e.g. 3 hour wait for the buffet. Coupon books were sent out for the first couple of months and I'm fairly near you (the Lakes area).
The crowds have pretty much gone, though. I think the drive does have something to do with it but it doesn't take nearly an hour to get there. It doesn't take an hour to get to Primm. On the 215 to I-15, it takes about 20-25 minutes to get to M. From my office in Green Valley, it takes about 10 minutes.
Neverthless, the same deals are gone. The buffet, while still good, has declined in some ways (snow crab instead of king crab on the seafood buffet and they raised the price).

It seamed closer than 12 miles when I drove from the airport, but I was not paying that much attention and I believe they have a shuttle to the Airport and Fashion Show mall that is included in their 'Resort Fee' for guests. It is a nice place, when you spend $1 billion on a 390 room resort, it should be fairly nice.

Actually, the shuttles are free for anybody, not just guests. I recently had some German visitors who were staying on The Strip and they took the shuttle from the Fashion Show Mall and it was free for them too.
So in case anyone wants to check it out, but doesn't want to pay for a cab to schlep all the way down there, just go to the Fashion Show Mall (across the street from Wynn) and find the "M Resort Shuttle". I think it goes about every 60 or 90 minutes during the day.

I visited last Friday after lunch. The casino didn't seem very crowded but there was a huge line for the only Player's Club booth open at the time; I walked by thinking a line that long had to be related to a performance where the doors had yet to open. Didn't have much of a problem with the waitstaff because I didn't see them ...

True or False: M is by the creator of Rio.
If true, I would not sell this place short. It is set up for locals and I can see it being a success.
To the OP......you're right, I could not think of a lower priorty than complaining about a good lookin babe in a low cut costume waiting around for my response to a question. Is this your biggest peeve about M?

True.
They are currently offering a free buffet to all comers who apply for a player card, which is why there are huge lines for the player club and for the buffet.
You can skip the lines by playing a table game and giving them your ID, they will make you a player card without standing in line, and after you've played for a while ask for a buffet comp, which will include a line pass.
I ordered a drink and tipped the waitress an extra buck and said, "This is to make up for the soda." She smiled.

Yep. My one and only peeve.
Otherwise, "M" has been an instant hit with locals, and with all visitors I get here.
Oh, and the ice machines at the free drink fountain run out when the place is busy...*
* secret tip: At the deli, over by the Sports Book, they have a similar "help yourself" soft drink dispenser (although supposedly for those who buy drinks there, but the deli is also owned and operated by the casino, so it is not like you are stealing) and because few people go there, they always have ice.
Simply go there, get ice and then go back to the free soft drink dispenser about 50 feet away.

Locals tell me that they have recently downgraded the pay tables on the VP games and switched most ot the double Deck Blackjack to hitting soft 17.
mitchell
Jul 10, 09, 11:07 pm
I was playing the 2 days before & after the downgrade.
16 of the 22 100+ VP machines have disappeared (including the 8 triple-play 25c Super-NSU deuces)
There are still 6 100+% machines for quarters.
Even the 5c VP was downgraded 1.5% for deuces, and it was pretty bad before. It's ok for 25c Deuces/DDB/DB/Joker, but not good for 5c or $1. 5c VP is even worse than most places on the strip! If you have to play 5c, look for the Multi-strike & 100-play machines which weren't downgraded like the regular games (and play single-line).
The optimum play 25c machines do NOT earn bonuses on their multiplier days, and earn comps/points at 1/4 the regular rate. Could be time to move on...even though I love the layout.
The 10X slots days are still great if you like slots. They comp about 4X the cash-back rate.
They had really good $1 machines when the M opened. I heard that pros hit them for $200,000 (one lady earned $30,000 cash back on top of the jackpots) before they were removed. It's marketing to increase visibility. Build a $1 billion casino. Lose a few $100,000 promoting the casino, then scale back the benefits.
P.S. I think the buffet used to be $9 lunch & $15 dinner. It's now something like $18 lunch $35 dinner. Perhaps someone else can correct me.
