Many rental agencies do charge for diminished value.

I came across an article (Denver Post) from approx a year ago that says Hertz Does Not charge for diminished value.

Anyone know if this is still correct or how I can verify.

I called Hertz reservation line, agent checked with her supv and the response was that they did not even know what that was so they did not think they charged for that in the event of vehicle damage.

I need a bit more reassurance before I believe this.

Regards,

P.S. I ask because most personal veh insurance and credit cards do not cover diminished value. I will take the risk of having to pay for loss of use or admin fees by only going with my insurance but do not want to risk diminished value.

I've never heard anything about diminished value. If they do charge for it then they certainly don't talk about it nearly as much as they do loss of use. However, vehicle damage became an extremely hot topic before I left so I would imagine that they will be looking at every possible way to maximize recovery.

I don't know the official answer, but this may also vary state to state as each state has different regulations on if diminished value is allowed. Some states have caps, others forbid it, etc.
