Hertz - Presidents Cirlcle
I have been a Pres Circle member for 4 years now, and whenever I rent in the us, I almost always get the worst cars immaginable. I usually rent in the premium/Luxury classes, but regardless of status they stick me with "clunkers". It states "Pres Circle" on the contract, but my car is almost always parked in "general population" far away from the entrance. I rent most often from EWR and E40th st NYC.
I am really starting to get tired of old town cars and grand victorias. These cars should have been buried many years ago. Am I better off renting a Full Size and get upgraded to a some special car between F and G. I booked an F car at IAD in 2 weeks so I will try it there. Anyone who can give me an indication on what kind of car this will get me since I have guaranteed upgrade?

Rent fullsize and, IME, your upgrade will be either a Grand Marquis or one of the many models of mini-SUV.
Oh, and also IME, I would take that "guaranteed upgrade" wording with a grain of salt.

You probably would be better off reserving a F or even a D.
I don't know when Hertz will finally learn that nobody wants to drive a Grand Marquis. It was one of the many things I brought up while I worked there that went straight into the trash. Enterprise lists a premium car as a "Nissan Maxima or similar" while Hertz lists a premium car as a "Mercury Grand Marquis or similar"... what kind of image does that give Hertz?

Company policy requires that I rent a midsize. Most commonly my upgrade is a Taurus or a Grand Marquis. Neither of which is in my favorite list.. Would just assume to have the midsize. I have had the occasional clunkers which does disturb me considering the amount of money that I spend with Hertz each year. Does anyone know how the other rental companies top tiers compare to PC? Is it worth changing over?
I have found that my car is usually in the Pres. Circle section, unless IRROPS has caused me to be delayed, etc. Aside from that, and the occasional good upgrade, I do not really feel that Hertz recognizes me as a loyal renter through the PC program.

The only way to get decent upgrades as 5* or PC is to know someone, get lucky, or beg and beg and beg and complain.
It is quite sad that best rental car company for years has gone down to the mid to bottom of the list now.
I am sure the other top renter companies have dropped off as well but not as much as Hertz...

I'll be the first to say that Hertz is far from perfect. The best decision I made this year was when I decided to promote myself from employee to customer. However, an upgrade from a C reservation to a Taurus isn't bad at all.

It probably has to do with the exact time you rent, which is when everyone else does. Before your reservation time comes up, the station attendant MANUALLY assigns your car from the 5-6 avb. IF you don't like your car, grab your paperwork and the attendant will have no problem reassigning you with whatever they have in front of them. I do this nearly EVERY week.

I did just that this week in SLC. I was a little annoyed at getting a basic Honda Accord with 44,000 miles on it. I ended up in a malibu with 16000 miles. I ask for a switch about every 4 rentals or so.

Yikes. I'd have made the opposite switch. An Accord with 100,000 miles is a better car than a brand-new Malibu...
