Going for a pre-Father's Day visit. Dad really likes a good prime rib. Don't care about a wine list (no one will be drinking), westside location is a plus.
For those who know, Paul's Monterey Inn in Albuquerque was our former go-to place for prime rib. There has to be something comparable in Phoenix.
I've never been myself (though I do want to) but I heard this place has the so called "Best in the West" prime rib.

A buddy of mine speaks very highly of a recent meal here:

For atmosphere how about T. Cooks @ The Royal Palms Hotel?
If he is 'old school' why not El Charro on Lincoln?

Actually, in the absence of replies on this thread, this is where I decided to take my folks for lunch last Thursday.
My dad likes prime rib (honestly, I've never eaten it). Stockyards has a special way of doing it (I had to have my dad explain to me what the 'usual' way is). They cut a single slice of prime rib and grill it (? apparently the 'usual' way is to cook a larger piece of meat and then serve slices?) Anyway, he said it was great.
Mother had the salmon and we both agreed, it was also great.
I had a chicken salad and a cup of soup, both terrific. Folks also mentioned that the vegetables served with their entrees were great. Also highly recommend the creme brulee for dessert - a bit different than the usual, very very good.
Service was fantastic. We'll definitely go back and can certainly recommend it.

Thanks, JPat! We'll go back to Stockyards, but I think we'll also try these on future visits. They all look good. I'll post 'reviews' after we do.

This is a usual place for my Father and me when he comes to visit so I can give you a good review for it.
The atmosphere is great though it does have kind of a "manly" feel to it with a cigar bar and pictures of the Rat Pack on the walls and a predominatly male wait staff.
The liqour and wine selection are impressive and drinks are poured stiffly and errors are not made in them.
The appitizer selection is good though I was disapointed in their crab cakes.
The main courses are where they shine. There is a large selection of meat and it's all of very high quality. The meat is served to you on a plate that has been in the oven so it literally cooks as you eat it. Do not touch the plate. I have had several of their steaks and they are always perfect.
There are also a number of sides including some of the best onion rings I have ever had.
Unfortunately I cannot speak to dessert as I am always so full from everything else I've had.
This is an expensive place but it is worth every penny if you ask me.

I second Maestro's Steakhouse, they have one in Old Town and one in North Scottsdale.
Don't forget, Fleming's in the Hilton along Scottsdale Rd has a Sunday night prime rib special for $33 which includes salad, side dish, and desert. When I found the $25 off coupon from Flyertalk's coupon connection last winter, I went there almost every Sunday night for my $33-25= $8 prime rib dinner! (Fleming's also has other locations, like Chandler)
J&G steakhouse at the Phoenician recently opened and it is excellent also, although ther is no prime rib.

I know it is a little late but a great place my wife has taken me to is the Texaz Grill (http:/www.texazgrill.com/). It is a little hole in the wall in a small run down plaza but the food and service is great.
