I am flying LHR-KUL via HKG in July.
I am travelling with 6 friends on the 723 HKG-KUL flight. 5 of them will be checking-in in HKG, one will be connecting from QF's LHR - HKG service. And of course I will be on the LHR - HKG CX.

Needless to say, for us grab seats at check-in so that we can seat together is simply impossible so I rang up MPC and they kindly blocked the seats for all of us: I have 35G, friends will be seating 35H-K and 36H-K

It was originally scheduled to be a 772 but I checked again this morning it changed to a 773 and they have changed my seat to 31G!! My friend's seats are unaffected!

Even if there is an A/C change, why would they release my seat?? Now 35G is taken (checked on KVS)! Is there any way round this?

It happens. I was on a flight last year (or the year before last). It was originally a 744. I had my seat assignment and the seat next to mine blocked. About three days before departure, it was changed to a 74A. I lost my seat assignment (even though the seat numbering was identical in Y). I called and got my seat assignment back with the blocked seat. After OLCI, it was changed back to a 744. I kept my seat but lost the blocked seat.

Ahh CX, how simple would it be just to auto-block the seat next to all MPC's (or GOs+DMs), and then release them based on status (ie, GOs release first, followed by DMs)? UA....of all airlines, United...has had something like this system for some time. Still makes me laugh that the seat next to you is always automatically blocked precisely when it's not necessary, ie the system only auto-blocks next to you when it has a very low load factor.

I requested the block. It was a long-haul Y. I normally request if I am on a long-haul Y. I don't know if CX automatically blocks seats. It is at least not a published benefit. Sometimes I forgot and they blocked anyway. Once a while the check-in agents are kind enough to block two seats (one time even for a 85% full flight), even though I never ask for that.

When I flew UA in the past, they put me in E+ with the adjacent seat automatically blocked. They had that as a published benefit back then. They said they would do that until the flights were getting full (but their flights were never full when I was flying). There must be millions of UA elites now. I wonder whether they can still do that.

I rang MPC and got our seats rebooked.
Then the funny thing happened. MPC CANCELLED my booking!!!!!!

I was browsing on "Manage my bookings" site and found the itinerary was missing. I rang MPC immediately and said that my booking was cancelled and they blamed it on system error. What a service and what an excuse!!!!! :td::td::td:

They did book me back on the flights but if I did not spot that in the first place, what would happen??? I can't believe that they can make such an error...........

Are you ticketed on those flights?

It happens even after ticketing. I encountered all types of situations that I can imagine with CX IT:
* Segment dropped - They said that my TA cancelled it:confused:, but I was in the middle of a trip. They reinstated the segment anyway.
* KA segments not shown - They were on the same ticket as other CX segments, but only CX segments were shown.
* KA segment shown but KA did not see them upon check-in (OLCI or at airport) - It happens so often, even on my last trip. I am now presenting my MPC card upon check-in at KA.
