Has anyone noticed that especially 1 day rentals in Sydney have gone up almost 100% over the last year? I used to be able to get a compact car (cat. B or H) for $35 per day (all in from the airport). It then went to $38, $42 about 3 months ago and today I found that no matter what discount code I enter I don't get anything for less than $51 per day for the smallest manual car!
In a time when all the travel services (hotels, airlines etc) get cheaper I can't believe that the car rentals are in such a demand that they can increase their rates that much. Granted, I never booked without any CDP and I never booked with the AU residency because these rates were always outrageous to start with. So, maybe they are just closing all the loopholes and reducing the discounts for the CDPs. I'd be interested to hear whether anyone still has any good codes that can be used in Australia for these one day rentals.
