American Express Membership Rewards - A question on delta reserve welcome bonus when switching from a delta platinum

Hello all

At the start of the year i got a delta platinum amex to go alongside my regular platinum amex - I received 5000 MQM's. I then decided that it was silly to have all three credit cards and switched to a delta reserve card. I basically cancelled the delta platinum, got a refund of $450 for the regular platinum which I then used to pay for the delta reserve. I hadn't received my welcome bonus 10,000 MQM's for the delta reserve and when I called amex they said it would post 6-8 wks after purchase, but since it had been 8 weeks they would try to speed it along. Yesterday I saw they had added only 5000 mqm's.

Any idea on why I only received 5000 and not 10000? Do i have a right to complain?

Many thanks

5000+5000=10000

Isn't it silly to carry any other AmEx when you already have AmEx Platinum? Besides the sign up bonuses, what benefits do the SkyMiles cards give you that Plat doesn't?

Regardless, I remember reading on the AmEx Gold application that they would only issue the bonuses once per person, although I believe there was something about them upping your reward if you upgraded your card to one with a higher welcome bonus. So skofarrell is right.

For high volume spenders, the upper tier Skymiles cards give MQMs for spend targets. So, if you're short of Gold or Plat and you're a heavy spender it can be worth it if you land a higher Elite tier.

Reserve also gives you a leg up on upgrades.

Read the T&C of your upgrade offer. In the fine print it says that they have the right to deduct the value of any previous welcome bonuses (5,000 pts.) from the current welcome bonus (10,000 - 5,000 = 5,000). This applies to any previous silver, gold, platinum, or reserve welcome bonus.
