American Express Membership Rewards - question about Platinum card & AA lounge accessView Full Version : question about Platinum card & AA lounge access azmmza Jun 1, 09, 10:50 pm how many guest can one bring into the admirals club with the platinum card? i will be flying aa with wife, her parents and siste (5 people total) SpartanFlyer86 Jun 2, 09, 12:15 am I want to say that they would follow the same access rules as a normal member. I mainly fly CO and have been allowed 2 guests as well as immediate family. Note: Have been in AA clubs but only by myself. AA has their access rules posted: http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?p=/travelInformation/airportAmenities/AdmiralsLoungeAccess.jsp Hope it works out. ETA: does your spouse have a plat card? In that case both you and her can guest in 2. which should cover everyone. Ritz Jun 2, 09, 1:37 am Another variable is the lounge location. Some airports are much more liberal with guests than others, IMHO. azmmza Jun 2, 09, 1:38 am so the airlines treat the PLT card as if you had a paid membership? cool S.Bling Jun 2, 09, 1:45 am so the airlines treat the PLT card as if you had a paid membership? cool Not accurate. Plat will get you access if you are flying that airline, that day. paid members can access whenever they want, no connection to who they are flying (or not even flying at all). S.Bling Jun 2, 09, 1:48 am [QUOTE=SpartanFlyer86;11841613]I want to say that they would follow the same access rules as a normal member. AA has their access rules posted: http://www.aa.com/aa/i18nForward.do?p=/travelInformation/airportAmenities/AdmiralsLoungeAccess.jsp In theory it's either-or. You can either bring 2 guests, or you can bring your immediate family (usually as many as 4 people, never more). I have never been allowed more than 2 guests if they are not family - and also not both family and non-family. This is for CO, NW and DL. AA is actually sometimes even stricter in their access rules, even if you are "entitled" to use the lounge. You may have to ask for a supervisor, since sometimes they don't allow access as they should... scubadu Jun 2, 09, 7:36 am how many guest can one bring into the admirals club with the platinum card? i will be flying aa with wife, her parents and siste (5 people total) With the length of your FT membership and the number of your posts, I'm a little surprised that you did not search for this before starting a new thread. This has been addressed multiple times, ad nausem. What did you learn when you went to Amex's Platinum website? If you had, you would find the following: https://www217.americanexpress.com/cards/platinum/benefit.do?benefitTemplate=template_c&benefitId=1 Here is the relevant text: Receive complimentary access to participating American Airlines Admirals Club®, Continental Airlines Presidents Club, Delta Crown Room Club®, and Northwest Airlines WorldClubs® locations in airports around the world.1 Simply present the club agent with your Platinum Card, your ticket valid for same day travel on the corresponding airline that is operating the flight, and a government issued ID. Your spouse and children under age 21, or up to two traveling companions, may join you as guests in the club room. I've bolded the section relevant to your question. Before you ask the follow-up, note that from your thread you do not mention that you are traveling with your own children, and in that case if you read the text there is no combination that gets you to five people. Regards so ill tell my mother-in-law that she must wait at the gate. if she complains ill have her direct those complaints to scubadu Thanks scubadu Jun 2, 09, 12:43 pm so ill tell my mother-in-law that she must wait at the gate. if she complains ill have her direct those complaints to scubadu Thanks Afraid I didn't write the terms and conditions my friend, and you asked the question. If it's that important too you, you can always obtain an additional card for you wife (for a mere $175 per year) and then you can certainly double your fun. Enjoy your trip! Regards its a biz plat so the extra card is $200. but im a gambler i want to see what a 10 hour flight will be like with my M-I-L after i exclude her from the AC :) wripro Jun 2, 09, 1:15 pm Maybe you should let your MIL go in and you wait at the gate. skofarrell Jun 2, 09, 1:39 pm Another vote for Varies By Location (and time of day). I've successfully gotten 6 adults and 3 kids into one of the ORD AAdmirals Clubs with a single Plat card on a slow Saturday morning. Smile and some charm can go a long way. How do you get past security and to the club without boarding pass? skofarrell Jun 2, 09, 1:53 pm How do you get past security and to the club without boarding pass? Agents at the check in counter can issue a security pass. Same doc a parent would use to accompany an unaccompanied minor to the gate. azmmza Jun 2, 09, 7:04 pm Maybe you should let your MIL go in and you wait at the gate. i dont think that the rules would allow for this and im a stickler for riles when it comes to the MIL :p MIKESILV Jun 4, 09, 6:36 pm Another vote for Varies By Location (and time of day). Wow... no wonder longtime AC members like myself are not in the least excited by this Amex -AC deal. That said I must say I find it pretty hard to believe or understand why you were allowed to bring nine individuals unless they all lived at your address into any AA club. mike MIKESILV Jun 4, 09, 6:39 pm Agents at the check in counter can issue a security pass. That said I must say I find it pretty hard to believe or understand why you were allowed to bring nine individuals unless they all lived at your address into any AA club. It was between 7 and 8am on a Saturday morning, the big H/K club in Chicago was empty, and we were there for just over an hour. How long has the AA/Amex deal been in place, 2 years? What I don't understand is why anyone pays for an AAdmirals club membership, when for the same (or slightly more) an Amex Plat gets you AA/DL/NW and CO. I guess people really need that Wifi? skofarrell Jun 4, 09, 10:27 pm This statement is not at all accurate have you actually tried this and was successful?. Not at all accurate, but I and another member on this thread have done it. I've done it twice. Both times were when I paid for AAdmiral's Club membership before the Amex deal (which I should have clarified). First time I met a coworker at the same infamous H/K club in ORD. Second time I rented a conference room and interviewed an applicant in DFW. Wasn't ticketed or flying on either occasion (both times were post 9/11). Check in issued me a security pass, the TSA groped me, and I went to the club. Have not tried it with an Amex Platinum card, (not sure it would work without a ticket, but If I truely had the need, I'd buy a refundable "Y" fare ticket for later in the day). But again, I have not had the need. tom911 Jun 4, 09, 11:02 pm What I don't understand is why anyone pays for an AAdmirals club membership, when for the same (or slightly more) an Amex Plat gets you AA/DL/NW and CO. I guess people really need that Wifi? In my case, the Admirals Club at SFO has called me at home on delays and offered reroutes and confirmed seats, so there are some additional services I get from an AC membership. I don't fly DL/NW/CO so it's not going to help me there. The wifi has a dollar value for me, as I don't have a T-Mobile account, so yes, I do count on it as part of my AC membership and avoid paying for a $10 day pass. I can't see the reason to change with my circumstances (and I don't want to start paying a yearly fee for a credit card), but I can see why others find value with the AMEX program. But again, I have not had the need. I am quite aware of the normal stated procedures in getting to an AC if one has previously informed the club of a scheduled meeting or the rental of a conference room ....but the post in question intimated that one could just go up to the check-in counter and ask to be allowed to get past security to get to the club...no problem. As far as the cost the annual fee is $275.00 (if I pay with my Citi AA card) or I can pay with 40k miles (some of us do have a lot of AA miles) I bet you are paying that much or more for your Amex card - the free T-mobile is just a bonus. No real interest in getting into CO, DL or NW clubs I dont fly those carriers. The decided advantage of being an AC member is the "irregular ops" situations crop up. Having had club personnel seek me out when in the club, say when weather situations require a re-route or rebook is worth its weight in gold.... service I dare say no Amex Plat card member is ( and quite rightly so IMHO;)) is likely to get. mike Steve M Jun 5, 09, 12:55 am I am quite aware of the normal stated procedures in getting to an AC if one has previously informed the club of a scheduled meeting or the rental of a conference room ....but the post in question intimated that one could just go up to the check-in counter and ask to be allowed to get past security to get to the club...no problem. The "walk-up security pass" is a specific benefit for members of CO's club, but AA restricts it as you state above. skofarrell Jun 5, 09, 5:54 am I walked up and did it in ORD in 2006 or 2007 without 24 hours notice. The people at the AA ticketing counter took a few min to sort it out, but could not have been nicer. And again, if they did hassle (or I needed something faster than 24 hours), a walk up refundable fare for the last flight out that day will get you in. |
