If I am flying through JFK, leaving on an Alitalia flight from JFK to FCO, but then I am changing to another Alitalia flight in FCO... AND I want my Delta SkyMiles number added to the reservation, will I be able to do this in JFK at the Alitalia desk or will I have to wait until I get to FCO?
Thanks!

it depends..if in jfk they will manage to through-check you then mileage are on the whole itinerary...otherwise you will have to do it in fco while tranferring

The JFK-FCO is part of an award itinerary earning no miles, but the FCO-CTA is on a separate, paid itinerary. I doubt they can "through check" me in JFK for that, right?
Plus, I am starting in LAX on Delta. (LAX-JFK) So, I'll be getting my JFK-FCO boarding pass when I check in with Delta in LAX, right?
The LAX-JFK and JFK-FCO are part of the same itinerary.

uhm..well it should be separated..that's correct..so yes you need to get your ff number when you get to fco-...no big deal they can do it straight at the gate as well as well as issueing the b/p..

Sounds great, thanks!! And since my wife and I are both SkyTeam Elite, when we get our Delta FF number added, Alitalia should see that and give us an option to get "prefered seats" or at least consider us for a bump to first class if the flight is oversold, right?

yes that's correct.seat preference might not be considered sometimes though..it doesn't happen often but it might happen. And if the flight is oversold you can be upgraded as you are platinum

We got the miles posted to our DL accounts. Worked perfectly. But didn't exactly get great seats. We got the last row of the plane. But it was just FCO-CDG, so no big deal.
