Allegiant has a great deal & my wife & I are going to Vegas for a couple days next month. (this will be my first trip in a long time where I don't earn miles or points, but the deal is too good to pass). My wife wants a hotel with a good pool. I couldn't care less, but want to satisfy her. What would be the best choice of the following options:

Excalibur, Riviera, Stratosphere (hate the location so very low on my list), Sahara, Tropicana, Imperial Palace, Sahara, New York, Monte Carlo, or Flamingo. The only other one I am considering is the Hilton. (only if I would get the points, but I doubt it throug the Allegiant deal)

Thanks in advance!

I would find a better hotel for your wife than the third-tier properties you mentioned. That said, among the properties on your list the Tropicana has one of the best pools in town.

Search for other Vegas pool threads.

I think you could do better on Priceline than direct booking any of these properties. Check betterbidding.com for recent wins.

You'll like Allegiant.

Thanks. Priceline isn't an option as we need to book the package through allegiant. We can go for about $200 each for 3 nights & plane ticket. The Tropicana is $192 & I like the location. That is likely where we will end up. We really don't need a higher tier hotel. We won't spend much time there.

Hi,

The Flamingo has a very good pool area with lots of trees and greenery. ( Monte carlo had a lazy rizver and small wave pool but the landscaping was a bit poor ( lots of concrete and not too much greenery)

The Trump has a very nice pool area, that is quiet and has nice day beds, cabanas, etc. and doesn't seem to get too crowded. If you want to be away from the crowds, you might want to check it out. My nightly rate in May was $83 booked on GTA and found via Kayak. The rooms are also very nice, and it is a no gaming hotel, so nice and quiet lobby.

its unfortunate the OP doesnt seem to have trump as an option.

it is indeed the cheapest small property. its also amex FHR.

Trump is about $200 ($100 each) higher than the others I mentioned for 3 night package with flights. I would rather have that $200 as additional spending money. Heck that difference is 50% of what we will be spending on the package.

i presume flight costs dont change, only hotels do. that would mean trump is $70 more per night. so for your dates trump is not at its low. bummer.

trump starts at $90/nt. amex FHR gets breakfast and $100 spa credit.

Flamingo is the best choice on your list. The Trop has just let basic cleanliness go and MC still gets too much construction noise. Really, the other ones shouldn't even be considered. Good luck!

I too would vote against Monte Carlo because of the nearby construction.

Google Maps illustrates the problem: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Las+Vegas,+Nevada&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=33.214763,78.925781&ie=UTF8&cd=1&geocode=FVnfKAId0Ioh-Q&split=0&ll=36.106077,-115.176701&spn=0.000517,0.001204&t=h&z=20

I would recommend the Flamingo. The pool area is beautiful and definitely better rooms than the Trop (every time I go to the Trop, there's an odor of some sort. Could just be me, though). The location mid-strip is great, too. My brother and sister-in-law got married there outside on the grounds.

Here's a pic of the pool area: http://z.about.com/d/govegas/1/5/8/V/flamingopool2.jpg

Unless you get a GO Room or Suite (http://www.flamingolasvegas.com/casinos/flamingo-las-vegas/casino-misc/go-room-detail.html), the older (non-renovated) rooms are absolutely horrible.

Considering the current bargains on much nicer properties, it would be a shame to get stuck in an ancient dumpy Flamingo room, IMO.

It's worth mentioning that the Flamingo allows the general public to access their pool after 1:00 in the afternoon, at no charge. It can be quite a zoo sometimes.

I believe last summer. It was 2:00 p.m. then, this year it's 1:00 p.m.

I don't think they're horrible. The old rooms are very large, the bathrooms very tiny but not horrible. Of course, YMMV. :D

I absolutely had no idea Flamingo did this but it could definitely sway my opinion. Maybe the Monte Carlo then. I still wouldn't be caught dead staying at the Trop.

If I were the OP I would spend up to get the next tier of hotels and resolve to win back the difference once he gets to town.

Trop is under new management and may even have cleaned out some of the bathtub drains. Does anybody have any news of this?

I can come back & let you know in a couple weeks. I went ahead & booked the trop. I liked the location & price. Those were what was most important to me. My wife wanted the pool, so hopefully it will be decent enough for her. I stayed at the flamingo last time when I was in town for a conference. I decided I would rather stay someplace different this time.

I enjoy the waterfall and general appearance of the pool at the trop.
In addition I love to play the swim up blackjack, and they have floaty football size drinks you can take in the pool.
On one trip here, a friend had his wallet stolen while we were in the pool, so don't bring anything of value to the pool (should go without saying)

Of the places you mention, the Flamingo would have the best pool, but you would in fact be crazy not to stay at a higher end property given the low rates around town these days.

I know where we have a best swimming pool at Mandalay Bay. They have lazy river & wave pool, too. It was ranked number#1 finest hotel in the world. We were there in LAS for few days. I remember where we went on the wave pool & lazy river, too. It was so incredible time in LAS. So please try go to Mandalay Bay. Perhaps you will always best more convenient stay at fine hotel in LAS. We are really enjoyable where we staying in LAS for in between 1 or 2 days. This is so perfect time where you always stay at Mandalay Bay right in the downtown LAS.
