Now that economy class fares to Australia are relatively so inexpensive do anyone know if any of the airlines flying the route not only allow you to buy an extra seat but will protect the seat assignment so my wife and I could stratch out?
It would appear that Qantas does, look here (http://qantas.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/qantas.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=120&p_created=1120578881&p_sid=GkNVm2zj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX 3Jvd19jbnQ9MTMzLDEzMyZwX3Byb2RzPSZwX2NhdHM9MCZwX3B 2PSZwX2N2PSZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWV4dHJhI HNlYXQ*&p_li=&p_topview=1)for more information.
Indeed you can with QF, and they should be able to block the 3 seats together with a quick phone call.

!!! You know, that's a darned fine idea.
I'm surfing around looking for competitive fares LAX-SYD - trouble is, the differential between coach and business is around US$10,000! And apparently it's nearly impossible to upgrade on DL without medallion status.
I don't need fancy service, but having flown this roundtrip twice already crammed into a QF coach seat...it'd be well worth the coin to have a little extra legroom, plus be able to get out your bag without killing your neck or bruising up the ankles of the person next to you. ^
Yep Y prices SYD/BNE/MEL -> LAX are at relatively cheap prices currently.
You could almost book the whole 4 seats in a 2-4-2 configuration fo rhalf the cost of a single J seat.

Interesting to see the link refers to earning FFP's.
For the QFF members seeking to earn/retain status, it would be interesting to know if you earn SC's for all the seats.
I can't see any reference to earning either FFP's or SC's for the extra seat in the FF T&C.
