I'm moving to Hawaii. How do I get 3 pets to Honolulu from either San Diego or LA in the middle of summer. From what I've found, airlines will only allow 2 pets/person and as I'm traveling alone, this is a problem.

Has anyone shipped pets as cargo. Could have an agent collect them in Honolulu and take to quarantine until I get there to spring them with correct rabies paperwork.

Any ideas?

I believe that are some pretty strict quarantine issues.

If you're taking pets in-cabin, it's only one pet per person. In checked baggage, I'm not positive; it likely depends on the airline. Have you considered bringing a friend or family member with you, to help with the pets (and the rest of the move) ?

Shipping pets as cargo is actually quite expensive; I've never done it but the prices are generally much higher than for checked baggage, and could be as much as a ticket for another person.

Be sure to check out this website.... as obscure2k said, Hawaii is very serious and strict on importing animals.

I wouldn't recommend shipping as cargo - I did it once (Honolulu to Denver) via United Cargo and it cost me a little over $1000 for a 95 pound dog. I hated to do it but it was the only way.
