Royal Jordanian Starts Operations Between Aqaba and Paris

In an attempt to strengthen its presence at Aqaba International airport and increase tourism in Aqaba RJ has begun to serve Paris from Aqaba. RJ has begun 2 weekly flights from the Jordanian holiday destination to Paris. To increase tourism awareness and tourism numbers in the growing tourist destination.

The flights have been running for a little while now. Aqaba is a lovely little airport and ideal for a holiday. Well worth a look!

Are you sure the service has been on RJ? There are plenty of European holiday charters that fly into Aqaba from London, etc.

Obviously, this also increase AMM-CDG flights to 8/week, and increases AMM-AQJ flights to 15/week, as the flights operate AMM-AQJ-CDG-AQJ-AMM.

This offers a great schedule for those in Jordan wanting to do a day trip to Aqaba. You now have the option of a 7.30am or 9.45am flight from AMM, while you can fly back from AQJ at 11.45pm.

I think it is possible that RJ could expand flights out of AQJ in my opinion. Possibly one or two flights per week to European destination such as London, Frankfurt, Rome in addition to Middle East flights to destinations such as Kuwait, Dubai and Cairo. Aqaba is a port city in an exclusive economic zone, which is also closer to the key tourist landmarks of Petra and Wadi Rum so I think the potential is there (at least in the medium to long-term).

Not so many years ago we flew out of AMM on our normal LHR flight but the aircraft originated at AQJ and we ended up in CDG then onward to LHR.
There is (or was) a weekly flight from LHR to AQJ by Jules Verne Tours and seats could be purchased as a stand alone ticket-ideal for a week in Aqaba to dive or visit Patra and Wadi Rhum.
In view of the popularity of Jordan for the Brits perhaps LHR/AQJ could be next.
