View Full Version : Score a plane

May 28, 09, 1:42 pm
Hey, we can score our very own plane to watch the All Blacks take on the Wallabies. If you're up for joining my team, there are 30 positions available, so snag a spot before another player does and let's cheer our boys on the day. Oh, and this is your captain speaking, by the way. https://www.scoreaplane.co.nz/airnz/FlyAirNZ

I added myself, I hope it really is a DH3 from ZQN-AKL and return.

Even better it is Q300 - much quieter than the Qantas Link DH3 a/c.

Are they really that me quieter in side than DH3's ?, they seem louder than a ATR when they pass over my house. I was impressed how quiet the ATR 500s are when your onboard.

Inside - yes much quieter (it is what the Q stands for).

Note the Q stands for noise quieting technology and is only relevant inside the aircraft as they use a similar system to noise cancelling headphones.
The Q300s are indeed quieter than the older DHC-8-100, 200, 300 that airlines like Qantaslink use.
I do agree with you though that I too find the ATR-72 500 quieter both outside and inside especially if you sit in front.

Actually all of QF's 300's are Q300's they just removed the Q300 logo from them when the Q400's arrived in an effort to convince regional Australia that they were getting something good and different. I got a DH-2 the other week (one of a handful still flying at that stage) and I was deaf for a few hours.

Does ZQN currently see any Q300 flights today or could we be making history?

Kiwi Flyer

Not as regular service but Q300 has flown there before. Still need more FTers to join us to be in the draw to win.

Might have to get some dirty old QF'ers from the board...:D

When the plane gets to 30 is it within the T & C's for someone else to start another plane that everyone joins to increase chances of winning if everyone is signed up to 2 or more full planes that are in the draw?

JeffI haven't read the Ts and Cs, but my expectation was that signing up for a plane put me under zero obligation to actually get on it if it did turn out to be the winning plane. i.e. I signed up only to help Kiwi Flyer get his entry in the draw.

If he does win I expect he'll miraculously find a neighbour / colleague / friend also called kiwibigdave ;)

Well, I guess you've got to be in to win huh?

So I've started my own team, and if anyone who has already created themselves a scoreaplane account wants to sign up to mine for the sake of getting my entry in that would be grand. I'll happily repay the favour.

Off to thrash the Far Ken Aussies (https://www.scoreaplane.co.nz/default.htm?n=36V24ES9S) NSN-WLG in September.

Hmmm...tempted to join! Although there is the positioning in ZQN to think (or not think :)) about. And it is a prize, so we may or may not get it.....

Then, of course, there's the concern that as soon as I arrive back in Australia I will be summarily given a third degree for treason. :p Although I don't see what we're so proud about - the Wallabies form isn't much to write home about at the moment....

But then balance that off with being in the company of great people, plus first NZ DO (that's first DO involving Air New Zealand and New Zealand).

Why can't QF do something as cool as this?

...pondering - in progress...

Lol when has Qantas ever been cool!

 Ah, touche!

(This from the members of an FT board of an airline who creates an ad featuring almost-naked workers in body paint.)

EDIT: Hmmmm... the T&Cs clearly state that all passengers grant the Promoter (Air New Zealand) has full rights to take footage of all those participating in the promotion... FTers on NZ TV???

cavemanzk
Jun 16, 09, 4:02 am
That TV clause was in the T&Cs for last years Grabaplane promotion. Nothing every came of it. But hey for a days free use of your own private Q300, being on a tv add is worth it!

We still have six spots.

But then balance that off with being in the company of great people, plus first NZ DO (that's first DO involving Air New Zealand and New Zealand).

First Air NZ do, other than the Kiwi Mainland Do Two (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/communitybuzz/793277-kiwi-mainland-do-two-christchurch-19-21-september-2008-a.html) last year, which featured Air NZ engineering & hangar tours.

Eh, why not.

Should have my tryout notice in the mail, Captain kiwibigdave.

Looks like NSN-WLG is just a bunny hop in NZ, so no problem for a Q300. ZQN-AKL, however........

Looks like NSN-WLG is just a bunny hop in NZ, so no problem for a Q300.Yup - NZ's entire Q300 fleet (well, it's Air Nelson's fleet actually) is essentially based in NSN, so it's by far and away the aircraft I fly the most.

But my flight is now in the draw too, so thanks to you and serfty for nabbing the last 2 spots. Maybe one day I'll figure out which of you is which :)

I only hope now - and isn't hindsight a wonderful thing - that they don't draw my flight out first and then put the marble back in the barrel because the semi-offensive team name won't take to publicity too well ... ;)

"The competition has now closed."

832 flights were filled at full-time, and " ...be sure to catch the Test Match Fever live on Sky Sports and The Rugby Channel from 6:30pm Saturday 27 June for the announcement of the winner ..."
