Following some problems with this airline, we have been offered $250 USD each in the form of an MCO.

We regret the inconvenience caused and as a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer you the amount of USD250 each in the form of miscellaneous charges order (MCO). The MCO must be issued within three months from this email and it is valid for a period of one year from the date of issue. This MCO can be used for various Qatar Airways Services.

The problem is we live no where near QR's base and have no plans to be anywhere even near the Middle East for the next several years (we will be in the USA, Western Europe and Pacific Islands). I have been back and forth with the CSR several times trying to get a refund on the credit card (even if a lower amount) but he isn't budging. So if we take this MCO, can we sell it or swap it on CC?

I suppose if they know you aren't going to use it to fly on QR there is little incentive for them to give you anything. It's not like they are trying to retain a paying customer at the point...

MCOs are, in effect, worthless, unless one lives nearby a city where the carrier is online and has an office. No travel agency or wholesaler will accept them, even in occasions where they can, because the paperwork of exchanging them isn't worth it, nor do they want the possibility of a debit memo. At least with electronic inconvenience vouchers, such as at DL, and the ability to apply them towards payment of a ticket on a website, they have value...paper MCOs are about as useful as single-ply toilet paper.
