As most of you have noticed S7 will join oneworld. AY has stated that it is pleased with this but that they will continue to co-operate with Aeroflot to SVO? Why wouldn't it be better to offer connections to their new partner's network? Is Domodedovo to far away to provide connections from/to JFK flights. I think that AY just makes the connection with MCT JFK-HEL-SVO-HEL-JFK. Or is it traffic right agreements. Would a co-operation with S7 open the lucrative (at least in the past) MOW route to Blue1? Or is it just a matter of time when the change will happen. Any ideas are welcomed.

The traffic agreements definitely! AY may not be very glad with the competition - in fact, they may have lost a large, almost non-conquered market to BA and perhaps Malev, regarding the EU paxes. Let us hope that we will get good connections to DME sooner or later. A magnificent addition to the alliance, in my opinion!

It's governed by the bi-lateral traffic agreements between Finland and Russia, and also affected by the fact that AY and SU codeshare on HEL-SVO as well. I'm pretty sure AY wouldn't mind flying to DME instead (or in addition to Sheremetyevo) , but their hands are tied at the moment. If S7 would be interested to start DME-HEL, then it would be relatively straightforward for AY to set up a mirror route HEL-DME for twice the frequencies.

KF submitted the first requests for HEL-LED and HEL-SVO routes already in 2003-4, but nothing has happened. There was even a draft flight timetable in some IATA application documents that were freely available on the internet. Now they are trying to get permission to operate SVO (or actually MOW, dunno which airport they have their sights on) -KTT for the coming winter season.
