What are the best stops for photos in Hawaii (big island and Kauai?). Am doing a photo trip in august.

A few of the spots are easier accessed using a 4WD vehicle (Pools of Mokolea, for instance). Technically, you're in violation of your rental contract if you drive off-road, but none of the roads are particularly difficult.

When I stayed on the big island I stayed in Volcano National Park which provided a lot of great picture opportunities both during the day and at night:

I also went to black sand beach which was unbelievable:

Somewhat sirprisingly, I didn't find that much to shoot on Kauai - much better luck on O'ahu and Maui. But I didn't hike the Na Pali Coast, where there's probably many good locations.
