My father, who was a Finnair Plus member, died earlier this week. I'm currently in the process of going through his things and started wondering what happens to points when a member dies. I could not find an e-mail address for the Plus service desk and I couldn't quite bring myself to calling them yet, so I thought that someone here might have an idea.

Condolences on your loss of a loved one. Unfortunately I think that those points are to be written off - I'd be surprised if Plus would have a concept of an inheritance. American FFPs, at least AAdvantage on the other hand does have this concept, you need to provide them with the death certificate and a proof of relation and you'll get the miles in your account.

One option might be to use your late father's account to book flights without actually telling AY that he is no longer around - if you knew his account password, that is.

Anyway give them a call and see what you get.

Is it a significant amount of points or just some peanuts?

Sorry for your loss.

Condolescenses.

On topic, Flying Finn's solutions are the best, IMO. If you don't have the login pw, just request a new one in your Pa's name (though in your situation this might be rather macabre)

Firstly, I'd like to thank everyone for their comments!

I called Plus today and they clarified the situation for me. Apparently once his remaining property have been divided, they need a copy of a document known as a "perunkirjoitus", after which those named in the document will be authorised to use any points that may remain.

I don't have his PIN code, and the call centre would not divulge his point balance, but I suspect it is a bit less than 100,000, so worth salvaging.

Interesting. I'd thought that there the concept would be completely alien to Plus, but apparently they have a policy in place. Thanks for the information and taking the time to post it here!
