I will be taking CX840/841 HKG-JFK on the 777-300 ER. I have booked the first exit row, window seat (Row31) and my question regards the monitor and tray table. How intrusive is it to pull it out of the armrest and is the added legroom worth the inconvenience? I pretty much have my choice of any seat (except the middle exit row-54), what is the best?

I would avoid the window seat (unless you're a very slim person), the exit door kind of have a piece sticking out and makes your leg room less horizontally.

Overall I find the exit row seats much better than what Airbus 346 used to have. The TV and tray table is not as intrusive. Of course you know the handle won't raise up.

The exit does intrude into your space if you're sitting in row 54, and therefore I don't recommend it. However, contrary to what was mentioned by the previous poster, this is not the case for row 31. There is "unlimited" leg room for 31A and K.

Again, whether you find an immovable armrest bothersome varies from person to person. IMO, i don't mind, and I always try to sit in 31A or K when I'm on a 77A. With the monitor and table, the only thing i find truly bothersome is the fact that you have to move your ptv downward towards the takeoff position when you try to take your table out, as it gets in the way.

If you need more info, the CX FAQ (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cathay-pacific-asia-miles/919353-cx-faq-complete-cx-experience.html)would probably help you answer some of your questions as well.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I thought the first row of the exit row seat on the 77A does not have a window! The window starts on the 2nd row! I've tried sitting there. And true, the table and ptv does intrude each other, so you will have to push the ptv down when opening up the table. I still couldn't figure out the best seat in the 77A econ cabin. Since I like looking out the window, the exit row was really bad in my opinion. I've tried numerous times sitting on the aisle of the middle 3-seat section. The last row on the 77A is a 2-seater. One side has a toilet directly behind and the other side doesn't. That could be a good seat! But the cost is that it will take forever to deplane.

Thanks for the replies. I am not overly concerned about the window and I am not very tall or wide so the small difference in the seat shouldn't be a big deal. With the lavatories nearby, is it a big congregation spot? On other carriers I often take the back 2-seaters but after this flight I have to make a quick connection. I have read these planes have AC plugs for laptops, where are they on these exit row seats?

If you have a tight connection, I strongly suggest you not to sit at the back then. Exit row at 54 doesn't have washroom nearby so good option. Yes it does have a plug, don't know if it works though, never tried it before.

Sorry if I didn't answer your questions fully. Because I haven't taken it for awhile now.

yiu, you're right. I forgot to mention the window being absent on both 31 and 54. so if OP is looking for an actual window, there will be just the tiny one on the emergency exit door. 54 is a good option for no washrooms, but doesn't have the "unlimited" leg space

If OP has to make a quick connection, do take the first section of Y as it'll take too long to deplane from the two seaters.

Washroom congregation is not that big of a deal (IMO), as there's usually not more than 2/3 people there, but you need eyeshades as everytime someone opens the washroom door when lights are dimmed, you get a blast of light, which might make it hard to sleep. And I believe on another thread, another FTer mentioned that based on federal laws, congregation is not allowed on flights near exits (which is where the washrooms are located), and you can ask an FA to help if it's a problem.

Don't know if AC plugs are available for the first row, but there's been issues with power onboard for quite a while. Can someone confirm power in Y for 77A?

Thanks for the comments, I believe I will keep my seat at 31K. Does anyone know if the AC power supply issues have been resolved?
