Checked out of the Fairmont Chicago after a 3 night stay last weekend and now I'm seeing 2 charges to my credit card. One for the hotel & parking the other (I've been informed by hotel staff) is for mini-bar. The only problem is we didn't consume anything from the mini-bar:eek: The total mini-bar charges were almost $65...:td:

Front desk staff said they would forward this on to accounting dept to look into it. Has this happened to anyone else and what is the chances of getting this resolved to my liking...

My advice is to closely check your CC statement online shortly after checkout to make sure this didn't happen to you.

minibar items charged to the credit card after checkout is normal. give the accounting deptartment some time to "look into it" and they will resolve the issue by crediting back the credit card.

this happens more then you think with hotels with minibars. it comes with the whole teritory of having them...

It happens, though not unique to Fairmont, and certainly not all the time. In recent memory, one property that seems to have a "habit" of doing this is Royal York in Toronto. Takes an email, but still it's something that shouldn't happen. As to reasons why, I don't want to accuse anyone of anything, but it seems odd if I never opened the darn fridge and I still get charged for minibar. WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT?

even of you dont open the mini-bar there is still the snack tray in the room and then the >$6 bottle of water in the washroom...

theres many chances to get dinged on this one :) ...

There's also the newer minibars with sensors that assume you've consummed an item if you remove it, even if you are just looking and put it back. Or, are rearranging the minibar to make room for your own items.:p

But, I've never had the hotel dispute my claim that I didn't remove anything from the minibar after being charged like you were. They've removed the charge without question the few times that it's happened.

Absolutely. OTOH, it really shouldn't happen in the first place.

I can't speak to Fairmont but from what I've learned it can be an annoyance .....seems more probable at "resort or destination" oriented locations where staff assumes the mini-bar was used. One Mgr admitted sometimes staff could sneak a treat on your tab or someone skipped checkout counts and your bar was short to begin with....most places seem to be aware of those possibilties and never challenge a reversal.

When I checked into the Hotel Vancouver last weekend they told me upon check-in that the mini bar had sensors, if anything is moved it is charged to my bill. It was the first time I've ever been told that at any Fairmont.

Thought I would let everyone know that the charges have been reversed^ The customer service in the accounting dept was awesome.
