Last year I noticed some post enquiring on the actual cost of obtaining 1-K status. I have never kept account of my total cost so it really was a project for me to undertake this year. I must admit that I cut, as many corners as possible and I have not deducted from the cost credits I am receiving from United Airlines for different problems arising from missed connections to broken seats, footrest, and audio equipment. These coupons will reduce my overall cost but are not included at this time and for the sake of the contest will not count.
All though the contest might not be worth winning to some people, the real objective is not to win the contest, but to learn what it really cost some of us to obtain 1-K status.
The fun will be in guessing what other flyers think it cost to be a travel fool and achieve the highest status level. To some it might seem out of reach, but with all the advice on this board, youll find if you have the time, its cheap and easy to be a top tier flyer. The major advantage of achieving this level is that the airlines almost pay you to travel with them. In my case, I think they do.
The benefits and miles I earned far outweigh the cost. In fact, youll be able to see for yourself when you compare the cost to the almost 500,000 mileage points earned plus the several 500 mile certs and 2 Confirmed North American certs plus the 6 SWU for next year and what ever else United might include later on.
This site has made my travels easy, cheap and a very rewarding experience. I have met so many amazing, exciting, and knowledgeable people on my travels. Each and everyone have helped me in some way or another. Thank you.
Without this board, I would probably have never flown so much for so little. You make me feel like a guy with a $30 haircut on a $10 head, with all your expertise and knowledge.

The contest ends this Friday and I hope someone wins my magnanimous offer of 1 million used miles. I've enjoyed them all.
I made this post for several reasons. The first been that when I flew 50,000 to 60,000 miles a year I had a goal to fly 100,000 miles one year.
I was under the false impression that it would be expensive to peregrinate around the world. In fact, I learned that it was not expensive. I have paid less money for all my travels and all cost than some people pay for just an international business class ticket.
The second reason was to find out exactly what my cost of flying 100,000 miles with all expenses was.
The third reason was to let you all see what it cost and that flying 1K in a year is not that hard to attain with a tractable attitude.

It must be in the range of $5942.87 and $6992.91 for the first and in the range of $1200.00 and $1500.00 for the second trip, so I my idea is to post a computer programme`s code which is displaying any possible price and combination of both prices in the those ranges above. Here it starts:

When will your decision be published here? Which time? I am asking because of the time delay between germany and the usa...

Robert - You really opened my eyes on the cost of traveling. I end up traveling atleast 2 to 3 times a year with my family and have tried my best to minimise my costs but you really amaze me with your numbers. Some day I will be able to talk to you or meet up with you to get some of your ideas.

$5978.45 is Low.
$1725.45 is very high.
Karen2 is very close on one.
One other point Karen2A raised about mileage runs.
They are not true mileage runs, all flights with the exception on London which was only 5 days have been on average 10 days. They dodn't in the true sense of the word qualify for mileage runs as they have been typical 1 week vacations with 3 extra days thrown in for good measure.
I am sure that the mileage run specialist on this board can beat my cost of obtaining 1K level with all other cost included.
My total cost is more for someone taking a vacation rather than a mileage run.

I have rounded up all the figures, cross checked and have the last and final price for both trips.
With one caveat. I have not deducted vouchers given to me by United for broken seats, footrest, stereo and lighting nor have I deducted a voucher for inoperable flights. These vouchers work out so far to $900. but I am expecting one more for $150.
The best and closest guesses todate are from:
Luvagator $5,964.25
and
FS $5,942.87
The final cost without vouchers is between these 2 sums.
For the flight to the Maldives via Bangkok and Sri Lanka, no one is particularly close so to help you along the price is between:
$1,230
and
$1,250
