My partner and I are taking a trip to Europe next spring and need to fly one way from Rome to Istanbul. It looks like my only non-stop options for this route are Alitalia or Turkish Airlines.

I haven't flown either airline and I'm wondering which one you would recommend. I've heard that Italy has many labor strikes and I wonder if flying Turkish would mean we'd avoid those?

We'll be flying coach, so the type of plane probably won't be that crucial.

Thanks for your help! :)

Turkish.

Newer aircraft, better in-flight service.

As far as strikes are concerned in Italy what you need to do is avoid traveling on a Friday or a Monday. That's when labor organizations tend to feel it's most important to make their voice heard ;-)

Turkish Airlines ground operations such as check in boarding manteinance and stuff are handled by alitalia anyway in FCO. And there hasn't been a strike in a long time. It's a good airlines though so i'd suggest go with the chaeppest fare :)
